Priority 1. UAVs, counter-UAV, military AI and new technologies in conflicts
Ukraine: the Russian campaign against bridges and digital infrastructure
update KRSN — the warhead's composition revealed, the Southern Bridge's stay cables withstood the strikes
Russia has moved from one-off strikes to a systematic attack on Kyiv's crossings. The goal is not to bring the bridges down but to keep them closed. There is little destruction so far, but three bridges are already closed, and the city is in transport gridlock.
The essence of the KRSN (shaped-charge cutting special payload) warhead is evident from its design. It consists of a central KRSN-Ts module weighing about 40 kg and four KRSN-K cutting modules of about 5 kg each, about 60 kg in total. The task is to concentrate destruction on a load-bearing structural element rather than to produce the maximum blast. According to Ukrainian publications, the KZ-4 engineering shaped charge is being considered for the Geran-2. ISW (Institute for the Study of War, a US think tank) allows for the use of KRSN against the Southern Bridge, but notes that serious damage requires repeated strikes in a short time. [TECH] The post covers the composition of the KRSN modules, a comparison with the Lancet's KZ-4 and KZ-6, and the logic of matching the warhead to the target class (source).
Objective monitoring shows strikes on the points where the stay cables are attached to the pylon (source). A new tube-shaped contact trigger has been spotted on the same drones: it fires on touching wires or stay cables (source). The result so far is modest. According to a Russian engineering channel, the 62 mm diameter stay cables have been frayed by fragments, but none has been severed. Such a cable can only be cut with an elongated shaped charge, and damage to the concrete casing of the staircase does not affect the strength of the pylon (source).
Reports are also coming in of a hit on the Northern Bridge (source). Gepard SPAAGs are already stationed on the bridges (source). The same Russian channel reports that the Ukrainian side is bringing air defense and MFGs (mobile fire groups) up to the bridges (source).
update Geran-4 and Geran-5 — official specifications announced for the first time at a showing for Putin
Russia has for the first time officially named the characteristics of its jet-powered strike drones. They were shown at the Chebarkulsky range during the Tsentr-2026 exercise:
• Geran-5 — speed 450 km/h; warhead 90 kg; range 900 km.
• Geran-4 — speed 350 km/h; warhead 50 kg; range 750–800 km.
(source)
The Geran-5 carries an almost twice as heavy warhead at a speed 100 km/h higher. It is precisely its speed that makes it the main burden on Ukrainian fighters. A Russian specialist channel believes that an engine change could give the "five" even greater speed (source).
Strikes on DCs have become a separate line of the campaign
Russia is methodically striking Ukrainian DCs (data processing centers). This is already a series, not isolated episodes:
• In Kyiv, a third DC in a few days, DLine, announced it had ceased operation, after COSMONOVA and Parkovy. The owner of DLine says services have been moved to backup sites (source).
• In Odesa, a "Geran-4 Siker" hit HOSTING-UA (source).
• In Dnipropetrovka, a Geran-5 struck the "Open Data" DC (source).
• In Mykolaiv, the "RX-Name" DC was hit (source).
At the same time, strikes are being made on power lines and 330 kV overhead line crossings over the Dnipro. Together this looks like pressure on Ukraine's connectivity — physical, energy and digital.
update Iskander-M — a second marked fragment of the new 9M723-2FZ modification found
The HUR of the Ukrainian MoD claims that since mid-July the 448th Missile Brigade has received five missiles of this modification. At least two, judging by the fragments, have already been used; the new fragment is from a strike on Kyiv at the end of September (source).
Jet-powered "Garpiya" and a multi-round launcher on a KamAZ-5350
IEMZ Kupol, which previously produced only the piston-engined "Garpiya-A1" (an analog of the Geran-2), showed jet versions. Alongside them, a mobile launcher for several drones at once on a KamAZ-5350 chassis was presented (source). It appears that a second Russian manufacturer, not only Alabuga, has begun producing jet-powered strike drones.
Ukraine: intercepting jet drones and the limits of aviation
update F-16 — half the fleet is under repair in Europe, while they account for 50–60% of drones shot down
The bottleneck of Ukrainian air defense against jet-powered Gerans is fighters. According to Zelensky, about half of the F-16s have long been in Europe for repair and maintenance due to constant work against jet drones (source). In an interview with the FT, he specified that F-16s shoot down 50 to 60% of drones. Scaling up new jet interceptor drones is hampered by a shortage of engines (source).
A Russian channel writes that phased maintenance in Belgium takes up to 40 weeks versus 2–6 weeks in the US (source). There is no neutral confirmation of this figure. Militarnyi reports that Ukraine's industrial partners have sped up repairs (source).
update P1-SUN JetKiller — a second Geran-5 shot down, intercept on a head-on crossing course
The propeller-driven P1-SUN JetKiller interceptor of a Lasar's Group crew hit the jet target from the side rather than chasing it. For a drone slower than its target, this is the only workable geometry (source). By ShrikeNews' count, Geran-5s have been shot down with video confirmation by five types of interceptors:
• "SBUshny" — jet-powered, 2 videos.
• STING S — propeller-driven, 3 videos.
• SPYS — propeller-driven, 1 video.
• "Prytula's Drone" — jet-powered, 1 video.
• P1-SUN JetKiller — propeller-driven, 2 videos.
(source)
update Mirage 2000 — first destruction of a "Banderol" with a gun
A French Mirage 2000-5F for the first time shot down a Russian S8000 "Banderol" small cruise missile with cannon fire (source). This continues the trend: expensive air-to-air missiles are being conserved, and the gun is used against mass targets.
Mi-8 shot down by a friendly Su-35 while repelling a drone raid
On October 1, in Voronezh region, a Russian Su-35 shot down its own Mi-8, mistaking it for a Ukrainian UAV (source). The helicopter took off from a pad on a threat signal and was caught by the fighter's fire (source). During mass raids, air defense assets are increasingly unable to tell friendly targets from hostile ones, and this is a systemic problem rather than an isolated episode.
Ukraine: long-range strikes and new strike weapons
update Thor Hammer — official presentation and announcement of a 1000+ km version
SkyFall officially presented the Ukrainian middle-strike (medium-range strike drone), which is already in use at the front. What is new is the announcement of a modification with a range of more than 1000 km. Key parameters:
• Speed up to 180 km/h; warhead 40–50 kg; range 350 or 600 km.
• Communications via Starlink or a secure link.
• AI terminal guidance is retained in case of complete loss of communications.
• Price $25–30 thousand; the goal is 5000 units a month by the end of the year.
(source)
A Russian engineering channel considers the vehicle "crudely" made to a canard layout and repeats a rumor about a British developer. The rumor is unconfirmed (source).
update FP-7 — the first combat strike, according to the WSJ, hit a target in occupied territory
There are no other details. The missile's maximum range is 250 km, so Moscow is out of its reach (source).
Firefly — an optical terminal guidance module turns drops from heavy bombers into precision bombs
Ukrainian Firefly kits are already being supplied to the Defense Forces (source). The module works from an altitude of 200–500 m and increases the drone's survivability: the bomber does not descend toward the target. In tests it was used with the Kil-9 delayed-action high-explosive munition against dugouts (source).
Counter-UAV: Ukraine, Europe, NATO
SkyFortress — the Ukrainian acoustic network is being exported to Lithuania, NATO has costed it for Moldova
Lithuania has begun a pilot deployment of the Ukrainian SkyFortress ("Sky Fortress") system. It detects low-flying drones and cruise missiles by engine noise and radio signals, and AI classifies targets using a library of "signatures" (source). The Lithuanian MoD will assess how the system detects drones at low altitude; data go to mobile fire groups (source). In parallel, The Atlantic writes that the Baltic states plan a network of IR cameras and acoustic sensors on the Ukrainian early-warning model with AI data analysis (source).
The main value of the day is an NCIA (NATO Communications and Information Agency) document. These are the materials of a seminar in Chisinau in July 2025, published by a Russian channel. [TECH] The PDF contains sensor specifications, localization accuracy, a coverage grid calculation and a full cost estimate (source):
• Ukraine has about 14,000 omnidirectional sensors (model G3.MCA6MSWI). A threat is detected in 12 seconds, false alarms are 1.6%.
• The drone detection range averages 1.1–1.3 km, with a maximum of 5 km. Cruise missiles are detected at about 4 km.
• The sensors are linked by a self-organizing LoRa mesh network (energy-efficient long-range radio communications with a mesh topology). Connectivity is up to 24 km between nodes, but the rate is only 40 bytes/s: enough only for alerting.
• Against a real Cessna 172 target, the median localization error was 0.82–1.26 km. This is accuracy for alerting and cueing MFGs, but not for fire.
• Covering Moldova requires 1355 nodes with a 5×5 km grid or 3760 nodes with a 3×3 km grid.
• The estimate for 1500 sensors: equipment €3 million, software licenses €2.4 million a year. A total of €5.94 million with a reserve. Annual licenses almost equal the cost of the hardware, which means this is a service model.
Tests with NATO forces took place in Greece, at Ramstein Air Base, at the Yuma range, in Romania, Estonia, Virginia and Hawaii. The recommended model is national operation with its own analysis center, roughly six analysts per round-the-clock shift.
Ukraine: more than 1560 km of anti-drone protection already on logistics routes
The State Special Transport Service has equipped more than 1560 km of protected sections since the start of 2026. Almost 170 km were added in September alone, and more than 2000 km in total since April of last year (source). Individual protected stretches are beginning to form a network of routes. This is a response to the Russian bet on drone isolation of the near rear.
update Vadris — the SDR version intercepts Crossfire and OcuSync, the US military already has more than 450 systems
The US company CX2 released an SDR (Software-Defined Radio) version of its onboard direction finder for FPVs. Previously it only saw ELRS (ExpressLRS, an open drone control protocol). Now TBS Crossfire and DJI OcuSync are claimed in the 800 MHz – 3 GHz range, and new protocols are promised to be added via firmware. A Russian channel rightly notes that the range does not cover 5.8 GHz, on which OcuSync also operates (source). The payload itself weighs 540 g, and the detection range equals the range of the target's control link (source).
update Harmattan AI Gobi — shown at a US Northern Command exercise, France has ordered 1000 units
The US-French interceptor was demonstrated at the Falcon Peak 26.2 exercise in Arizona. Speed up to 350 km/h, range 10 km, canister launch, kill by direct hit without a warhead, fully autonomous guidance (source).
Corvo Strike — an Australian interceptor against the Shahed: NIOA has made an inert module for testing
The vehicle is being developed under the Mission Syracuse program. For flight tests, NIOA made an inert module with electronics and a proximity target sensor: it makes it possible to collect intercept telemetry without live explosives (source).
Russia: the Tsentr-2026 exercise as a showcase of robotization and counter-drone air defense
The CSTO (Collective Security Treaty Organization) exercise involves more than 47 thousand personnel, 2000 pieces of equipment, 90 aircraft and 77 ships. Contingents from Belarus, China, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Pakistan and Tajikistan took part (source). The demonstration is largely staged, but the range of new items is telling.
TShRK "Shturm" — a Russian uncrewed assault tank shown in action for the first time
The heavy robotic assault system (TShRK) developed by UVZ has received a shortened 125 mm gun for urban combat (source). The system includes remotely controlled tanks and control vehicles on the T-72/T-90 chassis. The patent and first footage appeared in the summer of 2025 (source). According to TASS, two modules are possible on the T-72 base: a tank module and a BMPT-type (tank support fighting vehicle) module (source). The uncrewed BMPT "Spiridon" also took part in the exercise (source).
The weak points are visible to Russian observers as well. Control requires a separate crewed vehicle on a turretless tank chassis, and the range and robustness of the radio link remain in question (source). The same channel links the concept's prospects to the Russian low-orbit constellation "Rassvet": it could remove the communications range problem.
update Arena-M — the exercise showed that the APS misses a slow fiber-optic drone
The APS (active protection system) on a T-90M worked against FPV drones and fixed-wing drones. Against a fast "wing", the countermunition fired at the last moment: for a drone with an explosively formed penetrator warhead this may be enough to hit the tank. Against a slow fiber-optic FPV, the Arena did not fire at all, and the drone notionally hit the T-90M (source). It is valuable that the weakness was shown at Russia's own exercise rather than in the other side's data.
"Zarya" laser — claimed to defeat medium and heavy UAVs at ranges of up to 6 km
This is the first public mention of a Russian combat laser within a counter-drone defense setup at an exercise (source). There are no independent data on power or beam dwell time.
Also working against drones there were the "Tsitadel", ZAK-57-MSK and S-60M site-defense anti-aircraft artillery systems, as well as "Anklav" anti-aircraft machine-gun mounts. The robotic anti-aircraft machine-gun system "Kalitka-KA" was also used (source). A "Pantsir-S1M" on the Belarusian MZKT-7930 chassis was shown (source).
"Izdeliye 347" — a ground-based system with LMUR with a range of up to 20 km
The ground launcher for the LMUR (light multipurpose guided missile) engaged artillery positions based on aerial reconnaissance data (source). The 20 km range is stated in a post with footage of the system (source).
Russian MoD summary: robots, an FPV swarm and air-dropping UGVs
From the official list of episodes (source):
• UGVs (ground robotic systems), including ones with a combat module, were dropped by parachute from an Il-76 for the first time.
• FPV drone crews operated in a "swarm" battle formation.
• Lanes in front of strongpoints were cleared by "Vogan-15" drones with "Tropa" units and by robots.
• A Supercam S350 with "Repei" software adjusted tank fire.
• The UGVs "Bogomol", "Impuls", "Depesha" and "Kuryer" were used.
A Ukrainian channel read the "security zone" scenario in a Central Asian country as fitting Kazakhstan (source). This is the channel's interpretation.
"Saturn-30" and "Saturn-10" — KRET showed a line of UAVs with autonomous navigation for the first time
The "Saturn-30" weighs 30 kg, stays aloft for up to an hour, reaches 180 km/h and carries up to 7 kg of cargo. The "Saturn-10" weighs 10 kg and flies for up to 30 minutes. Both are in flight testing, with claimed machine-vision navigation and obstacle avoidance (source).
Ground robotics: Ukraine and partners
Ratel Robotics and General Dynamics Mission Systems–Canada will study producing UGVs for Ukraine in Canada
Under a memorandum, the parties will study joint production of ground robotic systems; for now it is about preparing a cooperation model. The Ukrainian side contributes development and combat-use experience, the Canadian side production, communications and electronics. The Ratel director called production in Canada a plan for the future (source). This could make it possible to move part of production outside Ukrainian enterprises.
update Droid TW 7.62 / 12.7 — DevDroid and Italy's ABET HTS are preparing a joint venture
After trials with the Italian Army, the companies are preparing documents for a JV (source).
Middle East and the US
Iran: about 30 drones and 10 missiles a week against ships in the Strait of Hormuz, few hits
This is how an NYT source has described the situation since the end of August (source). Against this background, the US is using lasers against drones in the strait: more on this in the "External analysis" section. Another laser system against cartel drones has been deployed on the border with Mexico (source).
Military AI, autonomy and new technologies
update AutoWarCom — a four-star unified command and a 20% cut in general officer posts
A Russian analyst draws attention to the fact that the US Autonomous Warfare Command will be a unified combatant command. In status this is the level of Special Operations Command and Strategic Command. Unlike them, it is being created almost from scratch, and the billets are being freed up by the largest cut in senior officer posts — by 20% (source). The Meridian project (Musk, Luckey, Gingrich) is coordinated by the Pentagon's chief technology officer Emil Michael; the report is expected no later than January 28, 2027 (source).
ARIA is building a "cage" for combat AI on the seL4 microkernel
The British agency ARIA, headed by former DARPA program manager Kathleen Fisher, is running the Agentic-seL4 project. It continues the HACMS program, in which a formally verified kernel prevented army hackers from taking control of an unmanned helicopter. Now protection is being built not against external hacking but against the AI agent itself inside the platform. Even a faulty or compromised agent must not physically gain access to fire or to firmware (source). The cyber program's budget is £59 million.
"World models" for training robots are vulnerable to data poisoning
The Woodrow Wilson Center describes the shift to training robots in physical simulators. Examples are the Nvidia Cosmos 3 model, trained on 348 million videos, and a Chinese committee on world models with almost 30 state test sites. For the military, the vulnerability figures matter. An imperceptible tweak to the physics in a model for drones degraded route planning by 20%. Corrupting 0.31% of training records was enough to plant a hidden command (source).
Wireless charging in flight — 96 hours without landing
GuRu Wireless showed a ground station with a phased array antenna. It holds a narrow 24 GHz radio beam on a moving drone, and the onboard receiver converts it into direct current. In tests the vehicle hovered for more than 96 hours at an altitude of about 60 m (source). This is an alternative to tethered systems for observation posts and relays, but with a noticeable RF signature from the station.
Priority 2. Military innovation
Blackbeard — Castelion's cheap hypersonic missile passed compatibility testing with the Super Hornet
The missiles flew as captive carry, without launch, at Patuxent River. On September 15 the US Navy issued Castelion an SBIR Phase III order (a small business program where part of the development risk is borne by private capital) worth up to $200 million for the first batch (source). The "venture" hypersonics model is moving from prototypes to series production.
Ukraine: 1678 new weapon types cleared since the start of the year, 91.2% of them Ukrainian
In 2022 only 60 Ukrainian types were cleared for operation, in 2026 already 1530. That is a 25.5-fold increase in four years (source).
Russia: 133 billion rubles for the national unmanned aircraft systems project in 2026–2029
Peak funding is 43.3 billion rubles in 2029. 26 billion has been allocated to R&D over three years. Personnel training is being cut from 1 billion to 270 million rubles a year (source).
Drone patents: China wins on quantity, the US is comparable on quality
LexisNexis estimates China's share of the global volume of patent portfolios in 2025 at 47%, the US at 15%. Adjusted for quality, it comes out at 34% versus 36%. DJI's share fell from 24% in 2018 to 4% (source).
Other signals
• Japan is purchasing drones from Ukraine's SkyFall on a trial basis, probably interceptors (source). Tokyo is also resuming discussion of transferring Mitsubishi-made Patriot missiles to Ukraine (source).
• The US Treasury designated A7 Network a transnational criminal organization. Among the network's identified purchases are Nvidia servers and Walksnail components for drones (source).
• Poland is preparing a law on "full readiness": a formal pre-war regime short of martial law, with advance deployment of allied troops (source).
• Japan for the first time showed an actual EC-2 EW aircraft based on the C-2 transport (source).
Priority 3. The conflict around Ukraine: trends and signals
• Mutual escalation against infrastructure. Zelensky told the FT that Putin lifted restrictions on air strikes in September (source). According to the NYT, Russia is preparing a strike of up to 1000 weapons in three stages: substations importing from Europe, hydroelectric plants, then distribution nodes near three nuclear power plants. Strikes on water supply are planned separately (source).
• Ukrainian strikes deep into Russia continue. The LPDS (line production and dispatch station) "Samara" was hit — a node of four oil pipelines, including Druzhba. According to ShrikeNews, five RVS-20000 and three RVS-50000 tanks are burning (source). The strike was carried out by FP-1 drones (source). The Russian MoD claimed 646 drones shot down overnight (source).
• Black Sea: Peskov says Russia has no specific details of the Turkish and UN initiative for a ceasefire at sea; there are no substantive negotiations yet (source). Redirecting exports to the Baltic has created a queue of 150 ships at Russian ports (source).
• The pace of the Russian offensive is falling. In September the increase in occupied territory was 66 km². Adjusted for delayed Ukrainian data, July comes out as a month in which the Ukrainian side gained the upper hand (source). The largest-scale fighting is near Dobropillia on a 50 km wide front (source).
• Russia continues to convert brigades into divisions: the 4th Separate Motor Rifle Brigade, according to OSINT indicators, is becoming the 84th Motor Rifle Division (source).
• External circuit: the US is building up forces against Iran — a third carrier group and Patriots for Saudi Arabia and Qatar. Strikes on Iran are possible after the November 3 elections (source). Russian rhetoric around Kaliningrad has acquired geographic specificity (source).
What to watch
- Russia is moving from general pressure to pinpoint "switching off" of load-bearing elements: bridge stay cables, power-line pylons, DCs. Specialized warheads (KRSN) are being created for this. The effect is achieved by closing crossings rather than collapsing them, so the frequency of strikes matters, not the power of a single one.
- The bottleneck of Ukrainian air defense against the Geran-5 is F-16 service life and engines for jet interceptors. Propeller interceptors are already shooting down jet targets, but only on head-on courses.
- Ukrainian counter-drone technologies have become a NATO export product. The NCIA document on SkyFortress gives rare verifiable figures on accuracy, cost and operating model.
- At Tsentr-2026 Russia showed the robotization of heavy equipment ("Shturm", "Spiridon") and the "Zarya" laser. The main unsolved problem is the same as for all UGVs — the control link.
- In military AI, the center of gravity is shifting to behavioral guarantees: verifiable kernels (ARIA) and protecting training simulators from data poisoning.
What's new in UAVs and counter-UAV
• Geran-5 and Geran-4 (Russia) — officially 450 and 350 km/h; warheads 90 and 50 kg; range 900 and 750–800 km.

• GuRu Wireless — in-flight charging with a 24 GHz beam, more than 96 hours.
• Betaflight Configurator 2026.6 — a wizard for automatically detecting flight controller orientation (source).
Military space and space-derived data
GHOST-R — the US has ordered geostationary orbit inspectors from Northrop Grumman and True Anomaly
The US Space Force selected two prototypes under the RG-XX program — a constellation of small maneuverable spacecraft for persistent surveillance of GEO (geostationary orbit). Northrop is building a spacecraft based on ESPASat-L with commercial optics. True Anomaly will provide the autonomous Jackal with the Mosaic control system for tracking maneuvering targets. The prototypes are to be launched by 2028, government missions from 2029 (source).
"Rassvet" — the first satellite of the second batch reached its operational orbit of about 500 km 68 days after launch
(source). Bureau 1440 conducted the first field test of the terminal in the Arctic, in the settlement of Nelmin-Nos (source). Russian military commentators directly link Rassvet to solving the problem of control range for ground robots.
Rheinmetall has launched its first reconnaissance satellite
According to a report on October 1, the spacecraft's sensors detect signs of air threats (source).
ICEYE and Nokia will develop secure low-orbit communications for states
The Finnish SAR (synthetic aperture radar) operator is moving into communications. The concept envisages that the state itself owns the satellites, the ground segment and the terminals. The first launches are in 2028 (source).
update ERA-GLONASS — flight plans for drones heavier than 250 g are now rejected without a confirmed connection
The remote identification requirement had been in effect since March 1. Since October 1 it has become a condition for access to airspace (source).
The Russian EW system "Volna Kupol Garant" for jamming Starlink has entered series production. Details are in the "External analysis" section.
Data access: the Russian Forces Spotter project, using open AIS (Automatic Identification System, the ship automatic identification system) data, is tracking a queue of 150 ships at Russian Baltic ports, including 65 tankers. This is an example of OSINT monitoring of export restructuring (source). FinCEN documents on the A7 network have expanded the open base for OSINT analysis of procurement chains (source).
Under the radar
• The NSUp "KURS" from Kemerovo State University — a remote FPV control station with a rotating platform and narrow-beam antennas with auto-tracking. The operator sits in a shelter on 100–200 m of optical fiber, frequencies are switched synchronously from the controller, autonomy is up to 100 hours. [TECH] The post covers the kit composition, Crossfire support, amplifier power supply and configuration via a web interface (source).
• ELRS control at 170 MHz — moving the control link to low frequencies for range and to bypass typical EW. The price is an 83.5 cm long antenna (source).
• The "Alissum-SK" sector detector — a bearing to the source with a spread of less than 45° even at 1080 MHz. The calculated range is about 5 km with a 10 dB sensitivity margin (source).
• Why 8S "breaks" drones: a Russian analysis of ESC, BEC and autopilot failures when interceptors switch to high voltage. The conclusion is that the problem lies in a weak power architecture, not the battery (source).
• An airship-quadcopter hybrid as a relay and reconnaissance vehicle, capable of landing in copter mode if the envelope is punctured (source).
• Rubikon's target list from a single video: "Baba Yagas", Starlink, patch antennas, relays, DJI Matrice. It is clearly visible that the Russian hunt is shifting to the communications nodes of Ukrainian drone units (source).
And what are our Chinese comrades up to?
• The PLA went on heightened alert for the holidays. For this, a unified platform for remote monitoring of sensors at nodes of defense fiber-optic lines and a network of remote air defense posts are used: monitoring is carried out without sending out patrols (source).
• Shield AI is turning Taiwan into a development site. The company's staff on the island has grown from 1 to 11 people, with plans for hundreds. Taipei has ordered 280 V-BAT, the share of Taiwanese components is rising from 16% to 25%, and AI is being tested on USVs (unmanned surface vessels) with the Chung-Shan Institute (source).
• The US will for the first time deploy the NMESIS anti-ship system on Yonaguni Island, 107 km from Taiwan, during the Keen Sword exercise from October 19 (source).
• Reuters: Washington considers a PRC military operation against Taiwan unlikely before 2028 due to anti-corruption purges in the army leadership (source).
• Azerbaijan showed at ADEX-2026 the Chinese "Hongqi-9BE" SAM system with a range against aircraft of up to 260 km (source).
• The Chinese DF-61 road-mobile missile system was spotted "in the field" (source).
• China and Laos opened a joint aviation academy at Ban Keun airfield. The terms of PLA access to the airfield have not been disclosed (source).
External analysis
• Janes adds what is almost absent from the Telegram circuit. The Ukrainian EW command confirmed that the Russian "Volna Kupol Garant" jams Starlink within a radius of 3–4 km and entered series production in August 2026. Russian Telegram discusses protecting its own drones (CRPA), while Janes shows a counteroffensive against Ukrainian satellite communications (source).
• US lasers are already in combat use against drones in the Strait of Hormuz. About $500 million has been allocated for serial systems, and operators aim them with Xbox-type gamepads (source). Against this background, the Russian "Zarya" has so far been shown only at an exercise.
• The War Zone gives parameters for the FP-7 that are not in the channels: about 1500 m/s, warhead about 150 kg. It also covers the anti-aircraft FP-7.X line in the European Freyja project and the 850 km FP-9 (source). This piece contains no confirmation of the strike's target.
• Airbus tested a "drone as a carrier of counter-drone missiles" concept. The 160 kg Bird of Prey UAV autonomously detected a target and launched a 2 kg Frankenburg Mk 1 missile with a range of 1.5 km; in combat configuration it carries up to eight missiles (source).
• The US Army selected 30 finalists in the LCI (Low-Cost Interceptor) competition (source). The bet on mass cheap interceptors is becoming common to the US and Europe.
• The SM-6 contract worth $24.4 billion is part of stockpile replenishment (source). Breaking Defense points to the risk: under a continuing resolution (CR), more than 150 new Pentagon programs will be unable to start (source).
