Ukraine and Europe: jet-powered drones and their infrastructure

update Geran-4 — Russian jet-powered drones reached Lutsk after flying 880 km along the Moldovan border

Russia is testing a new route for strikes on western Ukraine. Over several days, several dozen jet-powered Geran-4s were launched from Crimea. They flew through Odesa Oblast and along the Moldovan border. Four drones reached Lviv (820 km), and several made it to Lutsk (880 km) source.

To cover such a distance, the drones held an altitude of 5–6 km and an average speed of 320–380 km/h. The actual range turned out to be greater than expected. The Ukrainian channel allows that the warhead was reduced to achieve it. A route bypassing the main air defense lines effectively extends the zone of vulnerability to the country's western border. In Lutsk, debris reportedly fell on the "Adrenaline City" shopping and entertainment center source.

update Geran-5 — Russia built a second droneport for them in a month, near Millerovo

On satellite images, a new launch complex in Rostov Oblast has grown out of an empty field in a month. Construction began on September 1, and the facility is 171 km from the line of contact source. The first phase is almost ready: 8 spots for launchers and 32 spots for pre-flight preparation. Yesterday's image already shows UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles) being unloaded source.

The layout repeats the facility near Tsimbulovo (Oryol Oblast), which Ukrainian drones have been attacking for a long time without noticeable results. The Ukrainian channel Shrike publishes the coordinates (48.995968, 40.286255) and states plainly that kamikaze drones cannot knock out such sites; ballistic missiles are needed source. The signal is that Russia can quickly replicate fortified droneports. That means the intensity of Geran-5 strikes on Kyiv will also scale up.

Interception and ground-based air defense

update STING S — a single Ukrainian foundation bought almost 600 units in five days

A specialized high-speed interceptor of jet-powered Gerans is moving into mass production. A Russian channel reports that almost 600 STING S were bought through one foundation in five days at a price of about $2000 apiece source. That is about 165 thousand rubles: two to three orders of magnitude cheaper than a surface-to-air missile.

The base Sting, according to the manufacturer Dyki Shershni (Wild Hornets), destroyed more than 15,500 Shaheds, Gerans and Gerberas from October 2025 to September 2026. In September it accounted for about 1600 targets, against a monthly average of about 1300, and topped the ranking of jet-drone interceptors source. The three leading units control Sting remotely via the Hornet Vision Ctrl system.

update Fedorov's drone — the NGU's Lasar's Group special unit tested a jet-powered version of the interceptor

Footage has appeared online of tests of the jet-powered interceptor previously presented by Ukraine's former defense minister Mykhailo Fedorov. The work is carried out by operators of the Lasar's Group of the National Guard of Ukraine source. Fedorov earlier claimed a speed of over 600 km/h. The type of aircraft has not been disclosed, so there are no confirmed specifications.

Ukrainian combat laser "Tryzub" from Celebra Tech has entered final testing

Ukraine is getting its own directed-energy weapon against small drones. According to the developer, "Tryzub" shoots down reconnaissance UAVs at ranges up to 1500 m and FPV drones (First Person View — drones controlled from a first-person view) at 800–900 m. In the future they promise 5 km, which would allow it to engage Shaheds source.

During refinement, AI terminal guidance, automatic target acquisition and tracking were added to the system, as well as integration with a radar to obtain trajectories. The system is mounted on a trailer. A Russian engineering channel estimates its power at 3–4 kW and considers the claimed ranges to be test-range figures rather than combat ones. The system was first mentioned by the first commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces, Vadym Sukharevskyi, in December 2024.

Russian frontline "tinkerers": a four-barrel YakB-12.7 against heavy drones and a repair "hospital" for UGVs

Frontline inventors are converting stored weapons for counter-drone tasks. The commander of a repair platoon, call sign Lama, took an Afghan-war-era four-barrel YakB-12.7 machine gun found in Russian MoD depots, fitted it with an electronic burst limiter and stopped the barrels from climbing. That is how "Yasha-2" came about. The authors claim that 40 rounds in 0.2 seconds are enough to hit a drone source.

A separate Rossiyskaya Gazeta piece on the "Ustinov" detachment of the "Bars-Sarmat" center describes a "hospital" for UGVs (unmanned ground robotic systems): six vehicles were being repaired there while the correspondent was present. There is also a tracked robot that drives a multiple rocket launcher to its position by itself; there are already more than 15 of these at the front. An amphibian with a payload of up to 90 kg for islands on the Dnipro is mentioned, as well as a "cuttlefish" project that travels underwater at a depth of 30 cm or more source. A designer with the call sign K-5 admits that in high offices "they still don't believe in the mass use of robots on the ground".

Russia's TsBST tested the "YAKIM" module: tasks for mobile fire groups arrive directly on a smartphone

The module shortens the chain from detecting a drone to a crew heading out. The "Center for Unmanned Systems and Technologies" linked the Kursk Oblast air situation monitoring system with MFGs (mobile fire groups). The module itself selects the nearest suitable group, calculates the intercept point with the target and plots a route taking roads into account source.

Field tests checked the whole chain, from a training target to a simulated interception. The developers stress that the module does not require special equipment and is designed for unstable communications and satellite navigation failures.

The "Alissum-S" system linked drone detectors and smartwatches with a mesh network

The company "Quadro Kod" moved UAV detectors far from the terminal and linked them with a mesh network, that is, a cellular-topology network in which each node relays its neighbors. In tests, a watch in a vehicle received signals from five detectors at ranges from 1 to 2.5 km source. That is several times more than the usual Bluetooth links. The developer itself admits that in practice hundreds of meters are needed, but in a complex interference environment.

Separately, a Russian channel showed automated anti-aircraft systems in Krasnodar Krai that shoot down Ukrainian kamikaze drones, including ones with Starlink on board source.

The CRPA race: Ukrainian Fire Point "planes" have 16 elements, 36 spotted on a Geran

Both sides are increasing the jamming resistance of satellite navigation on long-range strike drones. A Russian channel published a photo of a 16-element CRPA (Controlled Reception Pattern Antenna — an adaptive antenna array that forms "nulls" in the pattern toward jamming sources) on Ukrainian Fire Point fixed-wing strike aircraft. The GNSS (global navigation satellite systems) receiver there is additionally shielded source. [TECH] in the post — an analysis of the spatial filtering principle and why shielding enhances the effect.

On the other side, a Russian channel, based on a photo from the Ukrainian side, claims that the CRPA on the Geran now has 36 elements, versus 4 on the first "Kometas" source. The information is unconfirmed ("they say"). Earlier a 32-element version had been reported source. The number of elements alone does not guarantee results: against synchronous spoofing (substitution of the navigation signal), algorithms and inertial support remain decisive.

Analysis of the Strix Air firmware: encryption of a Ukrainian FPV link is broken from 30–60 seconds of airtime

The Russian authors of the mil_hub channel obtained the Strix Air firmware binary. It is a defense startup "from 404", that is, in the authors' wording, Ukrainian. The link is built on ELRS (ExpressLRS — an open radio control protocol) with modified profiles. The FHSS (pseudo-random frequency hopping) table always has a length of 256, and the bands lie from 2150 to 2750 MHz source.

The weak point is encryption. It uses the little-known RAIDEN algorithm from 2006, which was recognized as insecure back in 2009. On top of that, key generation narrows the key space from 128 to 48 bits. The authors claim that from 30–60 seconds of intercept, the key and the necessary bytes of the UID (the link identifier) are recovered in seconds. This opens the way to channel-by-channel jamming and desynchronization of the receiver and the controller. [TECH] in the post — SYNC and RC packet formats, CRC-14 and the FHSS generation scheme.

The same line of dispute is visible in a neighboring post. Russian operators complain that Ukrainian "smart EW" (electronic warfare) takes over control of the throttle and yaw axes. The authors conclude that firmware in which the UID and the state of the FHSS generator can be brute-forced "has no place on the line of contact" source.

The NTI Foundation's "Autonomous Search" competition showed for the first time, under comparable conditions, two opposite approaches to navigation without satellites. The GNSS receiver was removed, all calculations were done on board, routes were 3–5 km by day and by night, and the accuracy threshold was 100 m source.

• LIBS (MIEM HSE University and "Cognitiva") — absolute referencing: a frame from the camera or thermal imager is matched against an onboard database of satellite images. The average error was 17.65 m, i.e. six times better than the threshold. The night final took place in drizzle with a cloud base of about 90 m, with part of the route inside the cloud. First place and 35 million rubles.

• Dronkam ("Applied Robotics" group) — relative localization: VIO (visual-inertial odometry) plus SLAM (simultaneous localization and mapping). A 20×20 cm module on in-house electronics, 17 sorties in a day, the goal being a universal GNSS replacement for any aircraft. Second place and 25 million.

Formally, both systems are being refined for the "LizaAlert" search-and-rescue volunteers, but the technology is clearly dual-use. [TECH] in the post — architectures, run conditions and metrics. Separately, JSC "GLONASS" tested local radio-beacon navigation for agricultural machinery in the Stavropol region: four solar-powered beacons are deployed in 30 minutes and cover up to 400 ha source.

Military AI

Ukraine and NATO created two AI models: forecasting Russian drones and artillery planning

NATO's Allied Command Transformation and the AFU, with the participation of the JATEC center (Joint Analysis, Training and Education Centre — a joint NATO-Ukraine center for analysis and training), brought two solutions to the validation stage source. "Model No. 13" uses past data, weather and the situation to forecast the intensity of Russian UAV use, areas, time windows and drone types. It has been validated on real datasets and is ready for integration into situational awareness systems.

"Model No. 32" takes into account the available guns, ammunition, firing positions, logistics and ballistics. It weeds out infeasible fire plan options and ranks the rest. The prototype has been handed over to the Ukrainian military for testing source.

Researchers demonstrated a "worm" made of a small neural network — and onboard Jetsons turned out to be the ideal environment

In a paper dated October 12, the model itself finds a neighboring device, logs into it, copies its weights, launches itself and looks for the next one. There is no single center. Qwen3.5-9B got itself running on 8 of 9 hardware types, from Jetson Nano to RTX 4090. GLM-5.2 captured all 8 nodes in four runs out of five, albeit via simplified entry through an open ADB port source.

For UAVs, the key part is the paper's appendix. A Jetson AGX Orin 64 GB delivers 76.7 tokens per second on a 30-billion-parameter model, meaning a drone's or robot's onboard computer can hold such a model in full. Signs of infection: transfer of gigabyte-sized weights (a 9B model at 4 bits is about 4.5 GB, an hour over a 10 Mbit/s link) and traffic between nodes that are normally silent. The Russian channel payloadUAV draws a separate conclusion for acceptance testing: when operating without GNSS, on visual navigation, a compromised computer is dangerous even without command privileges, because it feeds the autopilot false data source.

Anthropic: engineers in northern Yemen used Claude in three missile projects

According to the company's report, the group was developing a guided missile with a smartphone-class onboard computer, a ballistic missile with a claimed range of over 2400 km and a family with a hypersonic glide vehicle. The AI wrote and checked code, modeled flight and analyzed the causes of a failed real-world test source. A direct link between the group and the Houthis has not been officially confirmed. The signal matters more than the missiles themselves: commercial AI has become an engineering assistant in the weapons programs of non-state actors.

Strike newcomers

Ukrainian Armor sells the UB82D FPV drone with an already integrated 82-mm mortar round

UB82D is a strike FPV with an 82-mm mortar round; the manufacturer calls its drones the only ones on the market codified together with the warhead from the outset. The unit does not need to fit the munition itself source. A 10-inch frame, preparation for use takes up to five minutes.

It is sold through the DOT-Chain Defence and Brave1 Market marketplaces under the "e-points" program: individually or as a set of 250 drones with a ground station and a relay source.

Russia's "Kravt" launched series production of the folding "Matryoshka" FPV in a thermal container

The drone with folding propellers is stored in a sealed tube. The tube maintains the battery charge and heats it in frost, which is a direct answer to winter capacity losses source. The communications modules are interchangeable, and a fiber-optic link is provided for. The base weight is 7.5 kg with a flight time of up to 12 minutes, which is little for its class. The price starts at 100 thousand rubles.

Specifications of the Russian "Kub-10M" loitering munition published

A Russian channel listed the characteristics of the "Kub-10M", which is increasingly appearing at the front, including in footage from a Ukrainian interceptor drone source. An 11 kg high-explosive fragmentation warhead, a range (probably of the video link) of 120 km, cruising speed of 120 km/h, altitude of 80–1800 m, internal combustion engine. The 120 km/h speed makes it an accessible target for FPV interceptors.

update Banderol — "Dan-T" being prepared for launch from the Mi-8AMTSh-VN helicopter

New beam racks instead of the standard ones have been photographed on a Russian Mi-8AMTSh-VN. Outwardly they resemble the launchers previously used to launch "Dan-M" target drones source. This would expand the range of carriers of the small cruise missile; the Mi-28 was mentioned earlier source.

The intensity of use is growing: on the night of October 13, according to the AFU Air Force, Russia launched 9 "Banderols/Dan-Ts" along with 5 ballistic missiles and 108 UAVs, of which 74 were jet-powered source.

Sea and sabotage in the rear

Drone strikes on ships off Bulgaria: another one sank, Bulgaria summoned the Russian ambassador

Attacks on merchant ships in Bulgaria's exclusive economic zone have become serial. Azov Concord sank about 27 km from Krapets. Chelsea 3 (Maltese flag, Ukrainian owner, home port Odesa) was attacked by three UAVs about 24 km from Byala; the ship made it to Varna source. A week earlier, Alfa Watan and Able were hit in the same way.

Prime Minister Rumen Radev summoned the Russian ambassador and is discussing the situation with the NATO Secretary General source. The Russian channel "Rybar" explicitly frames the strikes as part of a campaign of "strategic pressure" on Ukraine's Danube logistics source. Along the way, it points out that according to MarineTraffic, Azov Concord kept moving, meaning the identification of the sunken ship is disputed source.

The FSB claimed a foiled attack on the "Baltimor" airfield: the drones were to be piloted over the internet from Ukraine

According to the FSB, a Russian woman recruited in 2022 rented a garage in Voronezh for assembly and launch. She had managed to collect nine drones with explosives and control equipment from caches. The final leg of the flight was to be piloted by operators from Ukrainian territory over the internet source. The "local launcher, remote pilot" scheme repeats the logic of last year's operations against air bases.

On a Polish beach in Karwia, debris of an unidentified aircraft was found; the military gendarmerie is investigating source. In Nuremberg, three pilots independently reported a drone near the airport; it could not be found source.

Ground robots

Canada's Dominion Dynamics and Ukraine's Tencore agreed to produce UGVs for the AFU in Canada

The memorandum was signed at the AUSA exhibition in Washington; the final agreement is scheduled for the first quarter of 2027 source. This is another step toward moving Ukrainian robotics production abroad. Separately, the Ukrainian remotely controlled amphibian UNEX UGV was shown, which tows a gun and brings ammunition to it source.

The war over logistics is being waged on both sides. In a fresh video from Russia's "Rubikon" on mining Ukrainian routes, 13 of the 17 targets hit are UGVs source.

Other zones

Taiwan doubles its military police and gives it M-ACE AI counter-drone systems

The military police will grow from 5600 to 11,000 personnel over five years. Its mission is changing from law enforcement to urban combat against a "decapitation strike" in Taipei source. The American M-ACE mobile systems combine radar, optics and IR cameras, EW equipment and a 30-mm Bushmaster cannon with programmable airburst. The engagement range is up to 3 km, and target tracking is handled by software with AI elements. The infantry will get SmartShooter sights to hit small drones at 400 m.

In parallel, the first batch of Stingers will arrive before the end of 2026: 500 missiles and 178 launchers out of a total of 2621 and 763 source.

update Gökalp — ASELSAN showed the system in operation for the first time and disclosed interceptor specifications

The Turkish counter-drone system fits on two pickup trucks. The first carries the Kalkan 200-G X-band radar that detects small drones at up to 40 km, the second launches autonomous interceptors source. The 2 kg E1 strikes only kinetically, at 1 km. The 4 kg E2 flies 7 km and carries a warhead of about 1 kg. Splitting into classes saves expensive munitions where ramming is enough.

Israel tested the Fire Storm 250 hovering drone with an M250 machine gun

The aircraft carries up to 200 rounds of 7.62 or 6.8 mm caliber. The claimed aiming distance is 400–600 m at an altitude of about 200 m, and an internal combustion engine gives up to three hours of flight source. It is a prototype for now.

In the Middle East, the Houthis continue drone drops on Saudi coalition forces, while Riyadh searches for launch positions using UAVs and AEW (airborne early warning) aircraft source. In Mali, Russia's "Africa Corps" is using the "Lancet", "Forpost-RU", "Inokhodets", "Kub" and "Garpiya" source.

Priority 2. Military innovation

Missiles and air defense

Lockheed Martin makes Patriot cheaper: PAC-3 ACE without kinetic interception

The new missile sacrifices range and altitude for price. Hit-to-kill, that is, a direct hit, has been removed: instead of the belt of attitude control thrusters there is a warhead, and the motor has become single-pulse source. The M903A2 launcher still holds 12 missiles. Against ballistic targets, ACE is inferior to both the PAC-3 MSE and the PAC-2 GEM-T.

At the other end of the lineup is [upd] PAC-3 Edge against hypersonics: the manufacturer promises up to 2000 missiles a year at a price roughly equal to the MSE source.

update Coyote — Raytheon replaced the turbojet engine with a solid-propellant one in the Block 2C+RM version

The counter-drone interceptor has received a solid-propellant rocket motor instead of a small turbojet engine. According to the channel, this brings its performance closer to the SAM class source.

Kh-BD: RUSI warns of a missile with a 6500 km range for the Tu-95MS and Tu-160M

The British think tank RUSI writes that the Russian Kh-BD ("item 506") will make it possible to strike the US from the Franz Josef Land area. According to 2025 data, the Aerospace Forces are to receive 32 missiles by 2026 source. The dimensions and the requirements for upgrading the carriers remain rumors.

On October 8, South Korea conducted the first launch of its own hypersonic glide vehicle from a wheeled launcher on a barge source. The DPRK responded on October 12 with two ballistic launches to 220 and more than 910 km source.

Unmanned aviation and network-centric warfare

• Boeing transferred its MUM-T (Manned-Unmanned Teaming) software for cooperation between crewed and uncrewed platforms from the MQ-25 tanker to a Beechcraft and practiced control via Link 16 (NATO's tactical data link network) at the Emerald Flag exercise source.

• Sikorsky packed four Nomad 100 VTOL drones with communications and power into a single six-meter container. The first two are ready to fly in less than 15 minutes source.

• [upd] X-BAT — Shield AI and Greece's GEK TERNA are creating a base in Greece for the assembly, integration and maintenance of the uncrewed fighter source.

• The Luftwaffe is betting on the Any Sensor, Any Shooter principle ("one sees the target, another strikes it") and is linking Eurofighter, F-35A, drones and ground-based air defense into a single network, citing the experience of Ukraine and Iran source.

• The US Army, under Project Griffin, is awarding its first two contracts for autonomous AI cyber defense agents. Ten finalists were selected from 108 applications source.

Industry and procurement

Ukrainian marketplace DOT-Chain Defence runs into the lack of advance payments

Decentralized drone procurement is growing faster than manufacturers can finance it. The platform has 286 manufacturers and 1248 items. In June–September, 21% of UAVs and 22% of EW equipment and UGVs went through it, versus 7% of FPVs for the whole of 2025 source. Payment comes only after shipment, and the advance payments for DCD promised in April have not worked for five months: the EU loan requires precise contracts, while the platform buys "on forecast".

Vyriy Industries says that with working capital it would make FPVs 15–20% cheaper and produce twice as many. The goal set by the former head of the DPA (Defense Procurement Agency) to run 70% of FPV procurement through the marketplace has been dropped. The ratio is now from 1:2 to 1:5 in favor of centralized tenders.

• The American-Ukrainian company Bavovna will enter foreign markets through Excalibur International of the CSG group source. Acoustic sensor developer Zvook received Czech investment source.

• The US ambassador to NATO warned that the American defense industry will be busy with Pentagon orders, and Europe needs to build up its own faster source.

• DARPA moved Atom Computing, Diraq, IBM and IonQ into the final stage of the QBI quantum program with contracts of up to $300 million. This is groundwork for the threat to classical cryptography by the 2030s source.

• Rostelecom began pilot operation of the "Bulat" DWDM system (dense wavelength division multiplexing in fiber): up to 96 channels of 200 Gbit/s each, i.e. theoretically 19.2 Tbit/s per fiber pair source.

Ballistic missile warning crisis. Two nights in a row, October 12 and 13, Kyiv was hit by ballistic missiles without a signal from partners about the launches. The AFU Air Force confirmed this the second time as well source. Zelensky speaks of a lack of warning, while Foreign Minister Sybiha asserts that data is coming in source.

Technically, this can be explained without politics. The motor of an S-400 surface-to-air missile burns for 10–20 seconds versus more than a minute for the Iskander, and the IR signature for early warning satellites is weaker source. However, the background is political: the FT and other global media write about threats to stop intelligence sharing and the $6.7 billion PURL program if Ukraine continues strikes on refineries source. Politico also allows for a Starlink shutdown source.

Strikes on infrastructure. On the night of October 13, the Russian MoD claimed 604 Ukrainian drones shot down, 417 of them flying toward Moscow; this is one of the largest attacks of the year source. Ukraine continues to hit oil logistics. According to satellite images, at the "Samara" LPDS (linear production dispatch station), 11 of 73 tanks were destroyed and another 11 damaged after three attacks source. The AFU General Staff claimed a hit on an "Iskander-M" repair base in Kursk Oblast source.

Russia continues its series of strikes on Ukrainian data centers: a Russian channel reports a strike on a data center in Kyiv that housed "Miratech Group" and "ZEO Alliance", following a dozen others source. The war over data centers is mutual. Yandex's centers in Sasovo and Vladimir have been completely shut down, and the one in Kaluga partially, while replacing equipment will take about six months by one estimate source. According to insider data, data centers are being prepared for inclusion among critical infrastructure facilities source.

Front. According to DeepState, Russian troops advanced near Bilytske, Dorozhnie and Novyi Donbas. Ukraine's average rate of territorial losses in October is 5.5 km² per day versus 2.2 in September source. In the Zaporizhzhia direction, as "Rybar" admits, Ukrainian infantry returned to Mala Tokmachka and is infiltrating Orikhiv source. Former commander-in-chief Syrskyi, in an interview with the BBC, accused former minister Fedorov of skewing procurement toward drones at the expense of UGVs, pickups and motorcycles, and called the race for active protection systems for armored vehicles a new front source.

NATO. The WSJ reveals the alliance's plan: a defense zone of drones and UGVs along the eastern flank, plus long-range missile strikes on command centers and air defense in Kaliningrad, Leningrad Oblast and Belarus source. NATO's Deputy Secretary General speaks of "about a year" to full readiness source. Since October 13, the Steadfast Noon nuclear exercise has been under way, with reconnaissance UAVs built into the strike control loop source.

What to watch

  1. Jet-powered Gerans are turning from a weapon for strikes on central Ukraine into a weapon for strikes across all of Ukraine. A range of 880 km bypassing air defense and a second droneport built in a month mean growth in both the geography and the density of raids. The response is mass cheap interceptors: STING S are being bought by the hundreds.
  2. The reliability of onboard data is becoming the decisive vulnerability. Strix Air's weak link encryption, Anthropic's AI "worm" on Jetson and the CRPA race all show the same thing: the attack targets not only the radio link but also what the autopilot trusts.
  3. Ukraine and NATO jointly developed AI models for combat tasks: drone forecasting is ready for integration, and artillery planning has been handed over for testing. Models are moving from tactics (auto-acquisition) into staff analytics.
  4. Space-based launch warning has become a political lever. Whether it is technology or a decision by Washington, two nights without a signal showed how much Ukraine's missile defense depends on American satellites and Starlink.
  5. Exotic C-UAS (Counter-Unmanned Aircraft Systems — means of countering UAVs) is reaching the front on both sides: the Ukrainian "Tryzub" laser in final testing, Russian conversions of old multi-barrel machine guns. Any cheap "shot" is being sought against mass drones.

Military space and space-based data

Launch warning. The main space story of the day is Ukraine's dependence on American missile attack early warning satellites. The short burn of an S-400 missile motor produces a weak heat signature. That is why such launches are detected worse than Iskanders, and "impacts without an alert" episodes happened in the summer as well source. A Russian channel agrees: S-400 launches are detected worse than those of the Iskander or the Tsirkon, and impacts without an alert have happened before source.

Communications and the ground segment. Starlink has passed 13 thousand satellites launched: 11,158 are in orbit and 9726 are operating as intended source. Against the backdrop of Politico's reports of threats to shut off Starlink, a Russian channel claims that Ukraine is preparing a reserve of terminals on weather balloons; there is no confirmation source. In Germany, two Turkish citizens were detained on suspicion of setting fire to a Starlink center in Poland; the Polish side sees Russia behind them source. The ground segment of satellite communications is becoming a target of sabotage.

Counter-space activity. The head of Germany's Space Command, Major General Michael Traut, stated that in May four Russian military satellites maneuvered near a satellite of ICEYE, a supplier of radar imagery to NATO and Ukraine. According to him, Russia is capable of pushing satellites off their trajectories, forcing them to spend fuel, and of interfering with Starlink source.

On the other side, the American HawkEye 360, under a contract with the US Air Force, showed that its signals intelligence satellites can track emissions from other spacecraft in low, medium and geostationary orbits. This is done with automatic attribution of the signal to a specific satellite source.

Industry. The Czech CSG bought 9.5% of Canada's MDA Space and became the largest shareholder of the maker of communications and observation satellites. Earlier it invested in Britain's SatVu, a developer of thermal imaging satellites source. In Vietnam, space intelligence specialists were moved from the DG2 military intelligence agency to the MPS (Ministry of Public Security), which will now influence the tender for an Earth observation satellite with a resolution better than 50 cm (the likely winner is IAI) source. The channel published statements by the State Space Agency of Ukraine on losses at "Hartron-Arkos" (27.7 million UAH) and the "Yuzhnoye" Design Bureau (7.6 million UAH) and disputes their connection to the strikes source.

Data access. Commercial imagery remains the main tool for both sides. It exposes Russian military construction in timelapse: the "Millerovo" droneport has been tracked from an empty field on September 1 to the unloading of UAVs. At "Engels-2", the loading of Tu-160Ms with Kh-101 missiles and the completion of shelters that hide the bombers, among other things, from satellites are visible source. This is a direct signal that Russia is physically closing off access to optical reconnaissance.

ADS-B (an aircraft's automatic position broadcasting system) via Flightradar showed the flight of a Ukrainian Il-76 from Lviv to Sharurah in Saudi Arabia near the Yemeni border source. AIS (the automatic identification system for ships) via MarineTraffic produced a discrepancy with the official version about the sunken Azov Concord.

Under the radar

• Analysis of the Strix Air firmware: the key is cracked from a minute of intercepted airtime, and the chosen RAIDEN algorithm was recognized as insecure back in 2009. A ready-made recipe for "smart EW" source.

• Anthropic's AI "worm" and the conclusion for onboard computers: a Jetson holds the model in full, so closed ports and control of inter-node traffic are becoming a UAV acceptance requirement source.

• GNSS-free navigation at the Up Great competition: two opposite architectures with a measured error of 17.65 m in cloud and at night source.

• HawkEye 360 has for the first time used commercial signals intelligence to track other satellites. A civilian service is becoming a means of space situational awareness source.

• The "YAKIM" module: cheap automation of directing mobile fire groups without special equipment source.

• An analysis of how drones use signals from cellular base stations for positioning, and why shutting down mobile internet weakens them but does not stop them source.

• The "Tryzub" laser with AI terminal guidance and radar integration — a Ukrainian directed-energy system that, according to the developer, has entered final testing source.

What about our Chinese comrades?

• The PLA Air Force will for the first time show new reconnaissance, air defense, airborne assault, unmanned systems and munitions at the Zhuhai air show (December 7–13). A separate "digital intelligence" section with humanoid robots and AI assessment will also open there, as well as a forum on unmanned intelligent systems source. In total, over 3000 exhibits are expected, about 10% of them premieres, plus a maritime zone with 500-ton uncrewed vessels source.

• A brigade of the PLA Eastern Theater Command acknowledges that the main problem is the incompatibility of data transfer protocols between equipment from different manufacturers. A target was lost because of slow transmission. The brigade introduced unified interfaces and an aerial reconnaissance laboratory source.

• China showed a light MLRS on the MV3 chassis: 20 rails of 122 mm caliber for guided and unguided rockets, range up to 40 km source.

• The international counter-terrorism forum "Great Wall 2026" (62 countries) for the first time made terrorism using unmanned intelligent systems a separate topic source.

• Chinese researchers improved the EHL-YOLO detector of small objects in drone imagery: mAP50 on VisDrone rose from 36.3% to 39.2% with 9% fewer parameters, but the model underperforms on IR images source.

• According to The Economist, Beijing included brain-computer interfaces among the priorities of the 2026–2030 five-year plan alongside quantum computing and humanoid robots, and is building them as a mass industry source.

External analysis

• The US Army has acknowledged that it cannot mass-produce small drones on its own. The SkyFoundry program, with a goal of 120,000 UAVs a year, has been renamed and refocused on component production, because the country lacks a sub-component supply chain source. Against the backdrop of a Ukrainian marketplace with hundreds of thousands of FPVs a month, this shows the real scale of the West's lag in mass.

• The US Army ordered another 385 FD-1 interceptor quadcopters from Mountain Horse Solutions after the first 300. Speed in testing up to 313 km/h, range over 20 km; 13 modifications, including a thermal imager, were made after the evaluation source. It is the same cheap-interceptor logic as Ukraine's Sting, but at a scale of hundreds, not thousands.

• BAE Systems brought its microwave emitter against swarms to technology readiness level TRL-6; it is more than 99% built from commercial components. Paired with the MDACS artillery system, it covers the close-in layer without expending missiles source. Telegram channels have barely noticed this topic, although it directly answers "drone spam".

• Raytheon began field testing of the rocket-powered Coyote. Compatibility with existing launchers and radars matters more than speed: the upgrade fits into already deployed systems source.

• The Bundeswehr is considering Diehl's GARMS anti-aircraft guns to cover the brigade in Lithuania. The system's predecessor is already fighting in Ukraine, while deliveries of other counter-drone assets are delayed source. NATO's eastern flank is buying what has already been tested in Ukrainian skies.

• American industry is massively converting vehicles to optionally uncrewed mode. Textron is selling a standalone CoreMotion control kit based on the Ripsaw experience source, and GM Defense is making a UGV on the Silverado by June 2027 source. This contrasts with Russian and Ukrainian frontline conversions, where UGVs are made in a month, not a year.
