Priority 1. UAVs, counter-UAV, military AI and new technologies in conflicts
Ukrainian long-range strikes: new range and new classes of targets
Long-range modifications of Ukrainian strike drones named: An-196 RS and FP-6
According to Zelensky, the target in Ukhta was hit by An-196 RS drones, which fly about 2500 km. The day before, FP-6s, modified FP-1 drones, worked on the Omsk refinery source.
Zelensky did not name the range of the FP-6. According to the Russian channel milinfolive, the An-196 RS is a long-range version of the Liutyi with a range of up to 2500 km, and the FP-6 is a long-range version of the FP-1 with a range of up to 3400 km source.
update FP-1 — Yandex's largest data center in Kaluga, with a capacity of 63 MW, has been hit
Within two days, Ukrainian strikes knocked out two of Yandex's five large data centers, and strikes on digital infrastructure have turned into a series. Fire Point claims that FP-1s worked on "Yandex DC Kaluga" in the Grabtsevo industrial park. The facility's design capacity is 63 MW; it is the company's largest data center source. Yandex acknowledged the complete failure of several modules source.
A Planet Labs image of Sasovo has appeared: roughly a third of the building burned out source. It housed two of the company's three supercomputers — Chervonenkis (19th place in the world ranking) and Lyapunov (12.81 petaflops), which ran neural networks, including YandexGPT source.
The consequences are more telling than the hits themselves. More than 64 thousand corporate clients run in the Yandex cloud. The outages affected Russian Railways, CIAN, Mostransavto, electronic document management services and the websites of major media outlets source. The company urgently arranged with VK Cloud, Selectel and K2Cloud to migrate the affected clients source, and some of Alice's functions have been disabled source. Conclusion: the concentration of cloud capacity makes a single data center a target with an effect comparable to a strike on a power hub.
Strikes on the missile industry: fuel for the Kh-101 and ground infrastructure of ICBMs
The General Staff of the AFU reported hitting two missile-industry facilities in the Nizhny Novgorod region on the night of October 9: the Barmin Research Institute of Launch Complexes, part of TsENKI, near Dalneye Konstantinovo, and the ICBM (intercontinental ballistic missile) Elimination Center near Surovatikha. In addition, the General Staff confirmed a hit on the previously attacked Redkino Pilot Plant in the Tver region (fuel components for the Kh-55 and Kh-101) source.
Strikes on the ground infrastructure of strategic missiles are a new class of targets for this campaign. In parallel, the Stroitel oil depot in the Belgorod region and the NZNP terminal in Rostov-on-Don were hit. The Russian MoD claimed 505 UAVs shot down overnight over twenty-odd regions source.
Balloons instead of drones: a cheap blockade of Moscow airports
Ukraine, apparently, has shifted the task of "closing the Moscow sky" from kamikaze drones to small balloons. Over the day, at least 432 flights were delayed or canceled at Moscow airports. Four aircraft of the Rossiya flight squadron circled over Moscow; presumably, three of them were carrying Putin, who was due to return from Turkmenistan source. The Yaroslavl region authorities reported shooting down "small reconnaissance balloons" source.
The Russian channel milinfolive acknowledges the asymmetry. A balloon is hard to see both visually and on radar. Air defense hits it at high altitude, but the airport still has to be closed. Winds in central and northern Ukraine more often blow eastward source.
Mara: a $6000 Ukrainian fixed-wing drone that a balloon delivers 1000 km
The Ukrainskyi Mariupol design bureau showed a combination in which the strike wing's range comes from a balloon rather than an engine. The balloon delivers the Mara to a distance of up to 1000 km. The manufacturer claims hits in occupied Crimea and Berdiansk, serial production by mid-October, and a system price of up to $6000 source. If the specifications are confirmed, this is a long-range strike at the price of a heavy "bomber".
Context comes from the Russian KTsPN, which translated a video by the Ukrainian manufacturer Aerobavovna. Since 2023, Ukrainian balloons have lifted relays, EW (electronic warfare) and ELINT (electronic reconnaissance) equipment, and surveillance cameras. Recently, Hornet and DARTS-2 drones have been launched from them source.
Navigation: the CRPA antenna race
update Geran-4 — CRPA antenna grew from 16 to 32 elements, probably made in Alabuga
Russian strike drones have doubled their resistance to GNSS (global navigation satellite system) jamming. CRPA antennas (Controlled Reception Pattern Antenna — an adaptive array that "nulls" reception from the directions of jamming sources) with 32 elements instead of the previous 16 are increasingly found on the Shaheds attacking Kyiv source.
Serhii Flash explains the arithmetic. Roughly speaking, previously 16 jamming sources were needed around a drone, now 32. Adding elements to an antenna is easier than deploying new EW sites, so the race is not going in the defense's favor. Separately, Militarnyi reports that a 32-element antenna was found in a downed Geran-4; it outwardly resembles products of China's Harxon but shows signs of local assembly, probably in Alabuga source. A comparison of the dimensions of the 32- and 16-element Kometa variants — source.
The Russian side claimed the destruction of a spoofing station of the Ukrainian Pokrova system
According to Russian channels, a Pokrova EW site located at the Pelican recreation center in Mykolaivka, Odesa region, was hit. A destroyed mobile spoofing station and a damaged control vehicle are claimed source. Pokrova creates a false navigation field: the receiver of a drone or cruise missile keeps receiving a signal but computes erroneous coordinates and goes off course. There is no confirmation from neutral sources.
Counter-UAV
Russia is preparing the Pauk acoustic drone detection network for serial production
Acoustics is moving from the experimental stage into a serial early-warning tool. According to Izvestia, the network consists of autonomous sensors. They are placed by hand or dropped from drones: "darts" stick into the ground, "hedgehogs" catch on branches source.
The detection range for FPV drones is up to 200 m, for larger vehicles with gasoline engines more than 1 km. A neural network classifies the target type, and when sensors are placed in several rows it estimates speed and heading. A sensor runs on battery for almost a month. The developers speak of lines hundreds and thousands of kilometers long. Experts note that wind and heavy rain reduce the range.
Ogonyok from Ruselectronics: a passive detector that filters targets by video stream
The detector solves the main urban problem — a congested spectrum. It emits nothing and discards Wi-Fi routers and cell towers, isolating only the video stream packets that any FPV drone, DJI or Autel "lights up". The image is displayed on an Android smartphone or tablet; the product, reportedly, has been tested in the combat zone source.
The limitation is obvious: a fiber-optic drone does not transmit video over the air and is invisible to such a detector.
update Tsitadel — video of hitting a Maya from 900 m and claimed ranges by target type
The Russian ZAK-30 Tsitadel (an anti-aircraft artillery system based on the BM-30-D Spitsa module with a 30-mm 2A42 cannon) shot down the Ukrainian Maya decoy drone from 900 m. Traces of airburst rounds are visible on the debris source.
The channel gives interception ranges: FP-1 — 1500–1700 m, Hornet — up to 1100 m, small FPVs — 700–800 m, with 2–5 rounds expended per target. The claim of parity with the German Skynex is the channel's assessment, not the result of comparative trials. The weakness is admitted directly: the ballistics of the 2A42 do not allow work at 2–4 km. This niche is to be closed by the 57-mm Derivatsiya-PVO with a range of 5–7 km.
update Alazan — reported start of converting anti-hail rockets into SAMs with an IR seeker at ~1 million rubles each
Russia, according to unconfirmed reports, is turning the 82-mm Alazan anti-hail rocket into a cheap SAM (surface-to-air guided missile). The product will receive an IIR (imaging infrared, matrix) seeker and control fins. The original rocket weighs 2.5–3 kg, with a 0.5–0.7 kg warhead, a range of up to 10 km, and 12 rounds per launcher source.
In price, this is the level of the counter-drone Gvozd for the Pantsir and noticeably cheaper than the 57E6 and 9M338K. The main plus is that an IR seeker does not need integration into a complex fire control system. The main minus is that the small warhead requires a direct hit or a precise proximity fuze.
Estonia's Frankenburg will test an air-launched version of the Mk1 missile in Ukraine at the end of the year
The European counter-drone mini-SAM is moving to launches from an unmanned carrier in a real conflict. Firings are planned from an Airbus DT25 UAV source. The ground version is to undergo troop trials in Ukraine's Unmanned Systems Forces.
Test statistics: the ground Mk1 was launched 40 times from January 14 to June 15, 2026, the air-launched version 6 times in 6 days, including at the Todendorf range in Germany. Since July 2025, more than 100 missiles have been fired at Adazi in Latvia.
update SwarmShot — Czech CSG has joined the shotgun-armed swarm interceptor project
The Czech group CSG has joined a consortium with Mossberg and Palladyne AI source. The concept: SwarmOS software receives target designation from external sensors and itself distributes targets among reusable Gremlin-X quadcopters with a lightweight Mossberg weapon module for Federal ammunition. The next stages are testing the effect of recoil on drone stability and firing in flight. Timelines, customers and price have not been disclosed.
VEGA DV: a carrier drone with three autonomous interceptors on a line of up to 15 km
The platform solves the problem of mobile fire groups that cannot keep up with drones' changing routes. VEGA DV carries three interceptors weighing up to 3.5 kg, moves out to 15 km and loiters for up to 50 minutes source. The interceptors are released one at a time, sequentially or in a salvo, and are guided fully autonomously; radius — up to 1 km.
The carrier flies by optical navigation, with 1.4 or 2.4 GHz communications. The text contains an internal discrepancy: the interceptor's speed is given as 350 in one place and 300 km/h in another. The developer's affiliation is not named in the post.
HIMARS hit a Russian Irbis system
Ukrainian channels showed a HIMARS strike on a Russian Irbis system that was tracked down by aerial scouts of the AFU's 43rd Artillery Brigade source. Sources differ on the target's class. One calls the Irbis a counter-battery system, another a radar for detecting aircraft and drones at ranges of up to 150 km source.
Mi-24 and Mi-8 against Gerans: flight technicians have become gunners
A translation of an interview with a technician of the AFU's 12th Army Aviation Brigade shows how Ukrainian helicopters are built into the interception system source. Fire is conducted from the Mi-8's nose machine guns and the Mi-24's blister machine guns. The safe distance to the target is more than 200 m. Detonation of a Geran's warhead closer than 100 m can be fatal for the helicopter, so fire must be ceased in time.
update Jet-powered Gerans — 93 jet drones in one night, 83% intercepted
The share of jet drones in Russian raids is growing faster than the effectiveness of their interception is falling. According to a count by the Ukrainian channel ShrikeNews, 37 of 43 propeller-driven (86%) and 77 of 93 jet (83%) drones were shot down overnight source. There were twice as many jet drones as in the previous recorded raid (46), with the same interception percentage.
In parallel, according to a Russian channel, the Ukrainian side showed its first jet interceptors intended against Gerans; there are no technical details source. The AFU's 66th Brigade showed the interception of Russian strike drones performing evasive maneuvers source.
Europe and the US: counter-drone means
EDA: by 2030 Europe will complete only a third of its counter-drone programs
A confidential report by the European Defence Agency, seen by Euronews, records a gap between money and results in C-UAS (Counter-Unmanned Aircraft Systems — means of countering UAVs). EU countries' investment in C-UAS and short-range air defense grew sixfold over 2024–2025. Nevertheless, only a third of the programs will be completed by 2030 source.
The plan for unmanned technologies in 2024–2029 is €18.9 billion, with more than 200 companies in the industry. The brakes are fragmented procurement, equipment incompatibility, and a shortage of test ranges and capacity. The agency warns directly: the systems risk becoming obsolete before they reach the troops. A pilot joint procurement is underway with Spain, Denmark, Croatia, Latvia and the Netherlands.
The US Army allocated $4.15 billion to ten companies to protect domestic bases from drones
The Pentagon has cemented the threat of cheap drones as a permanent one inside the US itself. Under the Domestic Shield program, base contracts of $500 million each went to Allen Control Systems, Digital Force Technologies, DroneShield, L3Harris WESCAM, Napatree, RADA and SRC. Echodyne and PVP Advanced EO received $250 million each, Smart Shooter $150 million source. The multi-vendor scheme makes it possible to assemble a layered defense from radars, optics, EW, kinetics and lasers.
British Vanguard missile submarines: a fire hose is the only air defense at the pier
According to The Sun, the crews of British nuclear submarines carrying Trident II are being taught to shoot down FPV drones with jets from fire hoses with pistol nozzles while the boats are moored at Faslane source. This is a vivid illustration of the lag in European site air defense that the EDA report also states.
Communications and EW
update Specter — Phantom Defense's Ukrainian EW passed tests in the US
Ukrainian Specter EW systems were tested in the US; reportedly, all radio-controlled platforms were affected by them source.
The SoftBank DRU module turns the MQ-9B into an airborne LTE base station
GA-ASI tested on the Japan Coast Guard's MQ-9B SeaGuardian a SoftBank module that relays cellular communications source. From an altitude of about 3000 m, it forms a coverage area more than 5 km in diameter with speeds of 20 Mbit/s downlink and 5 Mbit/s uplink. The purpose is restoring communications after natural disasters. The military potential is obvious, but it is limited by the vulnerability of the MQ-9B itself.
Ground robots
update Kurier — a demining version with an electromagnetic attachment
The Russian UGV (ground robotic system) Kurier received an attachment that creates an electromagnetic field and remotely detonates mines with magnetic target sensors. Voennaya Priyomka called it the first high-power mobile system of this class source. In parallel, Kuriers work together with mobile fire groups of the Vostok group of forces in the "DPR": robots and crews share sectors of fire and cover each other source.
UGVs of the HUR's Artan unit evacuated 45 soldiers from the front line and delivered 41 t of cargo over the summer
Ukrainian UGVs (unmanned ground robotic systems) of the HUR special unit Artan evacuated 45 servicemen and transported 41 tonnes of cargo over the summer source. Robots on both sides are becoming a mass target. According to the General Staff of the AFU, 18 Russian UGVs were hit in a single day, 2908 in total since record-keeping began source. The Russian Rubikon posted dozens of hits on Ukrainian UGVs that same day.
In Russia, Rostec is working out a tandem of the Depesha-3 UGV with an aerial scout: the drone searches and adjusts, the robot delivers cargo or strikes source.
Military AI and GPS-free navigation
By voice — as a whole group: a Russian control system for a swarm of drones and UGVs
A resident of the Ushkuinik Research and Production Center showed at Dronekongress-2026 a system that moves the operator from piloting to tasking. A command is dictated or typed. The system checks whether the vehicle is capable of executing it, distributes the mission among several drones and ground robots, and waits for human confirmation source. This is a step toward one operator controlling a squad of machines.
GNSS-free navigation is moving into commercial modules
Russia's VA Technologies showed the SOVA system at Drone Expo-2026. It matches a camera frame with a satellite image and determines coordinates without error accumulation source. The model weighs about 60 MB, runs on an ordinary processor without a graphics card, and integrates with ArduPilot and PX4. Resistance to snow and vegetation changes is claimed; there are no independent tests.
In Copenhagen, they took a different path. A Spot robot uses a camera on its manipulator to track a 37-gram drone and transmits coordinates to it by radio. When line of sight is lost, the drone holds on inertial sensors source.
Priority 2. Military innovation
Germany has decided to buy cheap 1500 km cruise missiles to saturate air defenses
The German Army is forming a combination of "mass cheap missiles plus expensive high-precision ones". The Inspector of the Army, Lieutenant General Freuding, announced the decision to buy Low Cost Cruise Missile class missiles; two products are being considered, with deliveries from 2027 source. The likely candidate is the American Covenant Anthem. The plant in Leipzig opened on October 5 and is designed for 1000 missiles in the first year and up to 5000 in 2028, at a price of less than $1 million. The expensive component is the Tomahawk on Typhon ground launchers.
CNAS: missile orders in the US outstrip factory capacity many times over
A report by CNAS (the Center for a New American Security) shows the gap between the budget and output. The Pentagon wants 857 THAAD interceptors, while the Lockheed Martin plant produces 96 a year. Delivery times for AMRAAM under new contracts have grown by almost a year source. The bottleneck is solid-propellant motors, made by only two major manufacturers. The author of the post notes that CNAS's largest donor is Northrop Grumman, one of those two manufacturers.
Ukrainian companies launch mass production of thermal imaging sensors in Europe and the US
The Fourth Law and Odd Systems launched Project Foundation. It is a network of partner and own factories: First Foundation in Europe, Second Foundation in the US, starting in 2027 source. The goal is to quadruple output of thermal sensors in Europe and double it in the US within three years. For drones, this is one of the scarcest items and among the most dependent on China.
Belarus showed a 400 km/h strike drone and is preparing an interceptor based on it
The National Academy of Sciences of Belarus presented to the president a strike UAV with a speed of up to 400 km/h and a strike range of up to 50 km. An interceptor version with a radius of 20 km is in development source.
Other industry news
• [upd] IRIFI — Morocco signed a memorandum with Harmattan AI on producing 2000 km autonomous drones with development of key technologies in the country source.
• Turkey conducted the first flight tests of the MORFOZ glide kit on the Akinci heavy UAV; on the hardpoints next to the bombs is the Alpagut kamikaze drone source.
• After trials, the Russian BREM-80 received a mechanized coupling that does not require the crew to exit and a visor with EW antennas under radio-transparent fairings; serial production has been launched source.
• ZNTC accepted the third stage of the R&D work on a Russian 130 nm lithography machine for 200 mm wafers with its own 193 nm lasers; the project budget is 5.7 billion rubles, serial contracts in 2027 source.
• The Ukrainian defense tech market: 6523 vacancies in the first half of 2026 — more than in all of 2025, while responses per vacancy are half of what they were in 2023 source. The MoD is expanding competitive procurement of drones and UGVs source. The British Kyiv Business Centre has opened in Kyiv source. Sweden's Varangians invested in a developer of AI target recognition and a manufacturer of medium- and long-range strike drones source.
• AI dependence on Chinese models: Alice in "Expert" mode reproduces a characteristic failure of Chinese GLM models, which does not prove borrowing but raises the question of a "sovereign" model source. Germany's Ecosia moved from France's Mistral to the open Qwen, GLM and Kimi, cutting costs in half source.
• Iran: residents filmed tests of an "anti-aircraft mining" system source. The US Navy plans to integrate the LRASM anti-ship missile on the B-52 source. The US Army's 4th Multi-Domain Task Force (about 2100 people) has been formed for the Indo-Pacific region source.
Russia: protection of facilities from drones is being shifted to business, the legal framework lags behind
After the strikes on data centers, the first deputy chairman of the State Duma Defense Committee, Zhuravlev, said that data centers should be protected by their owners source. An analysis shows the limits. Law 58-FZ allows combat small arms to be issued only to the security of fuel and energy facilities and critical facilities from a list, by decision of Rosgvardia. Law 427-FZ, since September 1, gives private security companies the right to suppress and destroy drones. Neither of them contains an obligation to guarantee repelling an attack source.
In practice, Crimean MFGs (mobile fire groups) buy double-barreled shotguns because the law does not allow them to acquire multi-shot weapons source. The New People party proposed making a 100 percent tax deduction for UAV protection equipment federal source.
A separate line: since October 1, operators of civilian drones have been refused acceptance of flight plans without an active account in the GAIS ERA-GLONASS. Aeronext has appealed to the Ministry of Transport and the prosecutor's office, while Geoscan points out that trackers on cellular networks and GNSS without EW protection do not solve the task of tracking threats source.
Priority 3. The conflict around Ukraine: trends and signals
The Russian energy campaign has shifted to power lines and links between the Dnipro banks
Strikes have shifted from protected transformers to power line pylons and exposed substation equipment. According to MP Nahorniak, up to 30 drones are sent at a single pylon. Restoration requires a 120-tonne crane, which itself becomes a target; the goal is to break power flows between the right and left banks source.
Expert Ignatiev estimates that all of Kyiv's generation has been destroyed or damaged. The city receives about 80% of its electricity from the Rivne NPP via the 750 kV Kyivska substation, which is now under attack source. Odesa is almost 80% without power source. The Telegraph writes about a possible return of Surovikin for a campaign of strikes on Kyiv's eight bridges source. Jet-powered Gerans worked massively on western Ukraine; Poland scrambled aircraft and evacuated the Yahodyn border crossing source.
The US–Russia "diesel deal" changes the framework of an energy truce
The US Treasury temporarily lifted sanctions on supplies of Russian diesel until April 7, 2027 source. Zelensky called this an "investment in war" and proposed a mirror format: Ukraine does not strike refineries if Russia does not strike the energy sector source. Ukrainian media write that Moscow demands the lifting of sanctions in exchange for an energy truce source.
Front, people and resources
• The pace of the Russian advance in October is 4.9 km² per day versus 2.2 in September; compared with autumn 2025 (8.6), it is half as high source.
• Contract recruitment in Russia over three quarters of 2026 — 263 thousand versus 292 thousand a year earlier (−10%); the average cost of recruitment rose from $16.4 to $22.2 thousand source. For the unmanned systems forces, the one-time payment for a first contract is being raised from 400 to 600 thousand rubles, and qualification bonuses are being introduced source.
• Mediazona identified 20 officers who most likely died in the strike on two command posts in Donetsk on August 26: eight from the Central Military District headquarters, nine from the 41st Army headquarters source.
• A Russian channel records that in September a sixth fewer Ukrainian drones were shot down than at the August peak, and daily highs are now reached through accumulation source. The Ukrainian side, by contrast, claims 4525 Russian vehicles hit over October 1–8 and a record of 727 in a day source.
• Spain and Greece refused to transfer PAC-2 missiles with expiring shelf life to Ukraine source. France will begin training Ukrainian pilots on the Rafale in November ahead of a purchase of new aircraft source. Its defense budget for 2027 is €63.4 billion (+11.4%) source.
• Hybrid background at NATO's borders: the armed masked men who escorted migrants on the Latvian border are the "Black Rus" group, ahead of CSTO exercises in Belarus on October 12–16 source. From October 13, NATO's Steadfast Noon nuclear exercise with 17 countries will take place in Italy source.
• Middle East: the Houthis struck Riyadh airport, a Saudia pilot was killed, 169 of 378 departures were canceled source. An Iranian attack on a tanker took place for the first time 13 miles off the UAE coast source.
What to watch
- Ukrainian long-range strike has received long-range modifications — the An-196 RS at 2500 km and the FP-6 (up to 3400 km according to a Russian channel) — and new classes of targets: cloud data centers and ICBM ground infrastructure. The strike on two Yandex data centers within two days showed a cascading effect on tens of thousands of third-party services.
- The CRPA antenna race is accelerating: 32 elements on the Geran-4 double the requirements for the density of Ukrainian EW. Russian practitioners simultaneously acknowledge that their own GNSS jamming field is "patchy" against Ukrainian CRPAs. Ground-based EW against satellite navigation is losing effectiveness on both sides.
- Balloons have become a full-fledged carrier: from balloons paralyzing Moscow airports to the 1000 km Mara and the launch of interceptors from tethered aerostats.
- Counter-drone means are splitting into cheap layers — acoustic networks, passive detectors, converted anti-hail rockets, mini-SAMs from unmanned carriers. At the same time, Europe, by the EDA's own assessment, will close only a third of its programs by 2030.
- Russia is shifting the protection of facilities from drones onto business without a legal framework commensurate with the scale of the threat.

Military space and space-derived data
update Rassvet — the first live broadcast via the Russian low-orbit constellation without a terrestrial transport link
MegaFon, Bureau 1440 and YADRO transmitted video from the taiga of Krasnoyarsk Krai to Moscow: a YADRO base station connected directly to the satellites source. According to a Ukrainian assessment (adviser Beskrestnov), there are about 40 spacecraft in orbit. The plan is 292 by 2027 and 924 by 2035. This could give Russia a Starlink-independent drone control channel over all of Ukraine source.
Starshield: about 245 military spacecraft in orbit
According to the channel's estimate, by August 2026 SpaceX had launched about 245 Starshield satellites for the NRO (US National Reconnaissance Office) under a $1.8 billion contract. The spacecraft are built on the Starlink V2 platform but carry optics, SAR (synthetic aperture radars), electronic intelligence modules and IR missile warning sensors source. A Space Force order for about 480 spacecraft for the MILNET military communications network is also reported.
Anti-satellite threats and constellation resilience
• The ability of Russian satellites to perform coordinated maneuvers is raising concern over a possible attack on Starlink. A hypothetical scenario is entering Starlink's orbit followed by breaking up into debris source.
• LeoLabs recorded the breakup of the Soviet satellite Meteor-2-7 around October 5; the causes are unknown source.
• Japan's MoD is beginning research into a system for rapid replacement of destroyed satellites: small spacecraft and cheap rockets, including 3D-printed ones source.
Access to data
• Commercial imagery remains the main means of assessing strikes. Planet Labs showed a burned-out third of the data center in Sasovo. At the Samara LVDS, 4 RVSPK-50000 tanks can be seen burning out completely source.
• NASA FIRMS: a chronology of thermal anomalies over Ukraine and the border areas for 2022–2026 has been published. The multiple growth in the number of fires since the start of the war and the peaks in early autumn are an example of revealing strike intensity from open data source.
• Closing a source: Yandex has blurred its data centers on Yandex Maps source. Russian channels claim that Ukrainian OSINT platforms, including HackYourMom, had earlier compiled maps of Russian data centers with coordinates and capacities source.
• Tracking: open flight data recorded at least 25 sorties of American P-8As and MQ-4Cs near Iran over October 1–8 source. Aircraft of the Rossiya squadron in a holding pattern over Moscow were tracked via FlightRadar source.
• A restriction on the other side: the SBU detained at least two Kyiv residents for filming and publishing positions of Ukrainian air defense; both face up to 8 years source.
Under the radar
• BlastRC — analysis of a "stray" control firmware [TECH]: a table of radio profiles (SF, bandwidth, packets per second). It turned out to be a copy of ExpressLRS 3.5 with two modified profiles (25 Hz/SF9 and 12.5 Hz/SF10). The FHSS (frequency-hopping spread spectrum) is standard, over 80 channels, and the SYNC packet is standard, so an attack via breaking synchronization is possible. The 2150–2250 MHz band is also standard for ELRS source.
• Russian TBF firmware on a controller with a Baikal Electronics BE-U1000 chip. The developers write that two weeks ago they recorded the effect of a "new generation of smart EW" from the Ukrainian side and are releasing an improved TBF 8.2.2 source.
• Russian adaptive EW that tracks FHSS. Targeted jamming of a drone's frequency-hopping channel without powerful wideband emission is claimed. The author admits that novelties have to be disclosed publicly because of the slow adoption system source.
• [upd] Chaklun — analysis of the CRPA on the Ukrainian middle-strike Chaklun-B [TECH]: four Kyocera AVX 1002649 dual-feed patch antennas. The Russian author admits the "patchiness" of his own side's GNSS jamming field and proposes placing jammers top-down, since the CRPA looks into the upper hemisphere source.
• FP-60 warhead [TECH]: mass 52.5 kg, 15.5 kg of TGA-18 explosive. Inside are eight aluminum tubes with chopped zirconium rod (fragments of 2.7–4.5 g), diameter 247 mm, wall thickness 15–75 mm source.
• [upd] Hornet — antenna measurements [TECH]: VSWR graphs. The main operating band is around 2400 MHz (≈150 MHz), with operating bands at 1300 and 3500 MHz (the latter a Vivaldi-type structure); the rest look parasitic source.
• "Black ribbons" against AI guidance. A report from the Dobropillia direction mentions ribbons that confuse AI-enabled drones and a separate segment "AI loses the target" — a sign that cheap visual countermeasures against machine vision have reached the front source.
What are the Chinese comrades up to?
• A PLA sapper unit has switched to an integrated system for finding and destroying unexploded ordnance. It combines UAVs, legged robots and underwater vehicles; development took more than 400 days. In exercises, task completion time was cut by more than 70% without people approaching the object; the problem of electromagnetic compatibility of the groupings remains unsolved source.
• A PLA Navy boat detachment is practicing evading an unmanned reconnaissance aircraft with decoy rockets and maneuvering into cover, as well as operating under radar jamming without a pre-known scenario source.
• A PLA robot dog has learned to dismount from an infantry fighting vehicle on its own without help from soldiers source.
• Private Changsha Nighthawk is preparing for serial production the SkyX dual-medium drone with folding wings: up to 50 km/h underwater and up to an hour of flight are claimed. The developers name military customers among the areas of application source.
• Taiwan: analyst Liao Hongxiang warns that 66 new F-16Vs will become targets on the ground without protection of air bases from FPV drones. He cites the withdrawal of B-1Bs from Britain's Fairford over fears of a repeat of Spiderweb and proposes six measures source. A Chinese maritime militia vessel has been spotted off Taiwan's east coast for the first time source.
• The Innovation Academy for Microsatellites of the Chinese Academy of Sciences described the "派格思" system — MBSE (model-based systems engineering) with AI for end-to-end satellite development from requirements to architecture; details are scarce.

• Janes confirms a trend that is visible on Telegram only in fragments: counter-drone means are sold as ready-made layers. Slovakia's Ares Shield combines an X-band radar (up to 48 km, 10×10 cm targets up to 3 km), EW up to 4 km, I2 Defender interceptors and Nemesis turrets source.
• The cost of air raid alerts for Ukraine's defense industry: in Kyiv, from late August to late September, about 60% of working time was lost with seven or more alerts a day. The League of Defense Enterprises asks to establish downtime as grounds for extending contracts. This explains why strikes on the rear hit drone output even without direct hits source.
• Interceptor consumption in the war with Iran has taken monetary form: Raytheon received up to $6.3 billion for SM-3 Block IB. This confirms the CNAS thesis about a shortage of production capacity rather than budget source.
• Shield AI is making Australia an engineering hub: ViDAR visual detection is being integrated into the V-BAT and X-BAT autonomy stack, and drone-based targeting is being developed source. Hanwha and Milrem agreed on localizing THeMIS in Australia and on a joint tracked combat robot source.
• Exail presented Neptis — a maritime surveillance system on Oryx uncrewed boats with anti-submarine warfare tasks and protection of undersea cables and pipelines source.
• The Kyiv Independent, citing Russian channels, confirms the strike on the production of fuel components for the Kh-55 and Kh-101 in the Tver region and interprets it as an attempt to limit the replenishment of the cruise missile stockpile source.
