Ukraine and Russia: communications and homing move away from mass EW

The second generation of SineLink moves the drone control channel out of the bands that typical trench EW (electronic warfare) systems jam. Jamming at these frequencies also kills satellite communications.

[TECH] The post includes an analysis of the internals, modes and network functions source.

  • Hardware. The housing is modular, with two slots for interchangeable radio modules. Range has grown to 140 km, transmitter power to 2 W. A 480 MHz STM32H750 microcontroller replaced the STM32G431. The Semtech LR1121 radio chip belongs to the third generation of LoRa (long-range narrowband radio communication).
  • Bands. The module is marked "1600–2700 MHz". These are the L- and S-bands, where satellite systems operate, including the Iridium uplink. Jamming there means jamming one's own satellite communications as well.
  • Jam resistance. The modem supports four FHSS (frequency-hopping spread spectrum) modes. Under jamming, it reduces the data rate from 30 to 1.5 kbit/s and raises power by itself.
  • Swarm. One lead modem holds up to 32 aircraft with individual AES (symmetric encryption standard) keys. For cheap FPV drones (controlled via first-person video), a network with a shared key is provided. The Masquerade function makes it possible to launch an aircraft from one point and hand it over to an operator in shelter right in flight.
  • GPS-free navigation. In Sinepilot mode, the ground modem computes the aircraft's coordinates using a network of its own beacons and outputs them as ordinary MAVLink (an open drone telemetry protocol).

The channel's conclusion: such links will have to be jammed with a wideband station covering both 510 MHz and the entire 1.6–2.7 GHz sector.

SHOT-L1: a Ukrainian medium-range drone finds and strikes EW stations by itself

A midstrike (medium-range strike drone) with passive homing on a radio emission source has appeared on the state marketplace Brave1 Market. Such a drone turns Russian EW at the line of contact into a target: the louder the station, the more visible it is. The manufacturer is not disclosed source.

[TECH] Specifications and guidance logic source.

  • The operator brings the aircraft to a designated square.
  • The onboard system searches for emission sources there, takes a bearing and selects the most powerful one.
  • If no target is found, the drone goes to a preset stationary target.

Claimed are a cruising speed of 100 km/h, up to 60 minutes of flight, a range of up to 80 km and a 4 kg payload. Typical targets are the Russian R-340RP Pole-21, R-330Zh Zhitel and Mgla. A Russian channel calculated that at maximum range no more than 12 minutes remain for the search.

Intercepting jet drones: Ukraine runs up against ammunition stocks and the product range

Ukrainian Air Force: 40% of Russian strike drones are already jet-powered, 80% expected

Deputy Commander of the Air Force Yurii Cherevashenko named the share of jet drones in Russian strikes. It is now 40%, up to 60% in some directions, and the forecast is about 80% source. Interceptors for jet targets are being made by almost 20 manufacturers, with products at various stages of readiness. He estimated the personnel shortfall in air defense at 25% source.

Russian commentator Aleksey Ramm gives his own, interested assessment. According to him, the Ukrainian Chaklun and P1-SUN interceptors are powerless against jet Gerans, and the Tempest SAM systems with Hellfire and Raven with ASRAAM sag in energy. In his opinion, MANPADS (man-portable air defense systems) work more effectively source. There is no independent confirmation of these conclusions.

update Mirage 2000-5F — half of a fresh French delivery of MICA missiles and 30-mm rounds was expended in two weeks

A Ukrainian pilot told Le Figaro that aviation has now become the main means of intercepting jet drones. Because of this, fighter ammunition is running out source. For comparison: earlier, a shortage of rounds and air-to-air missiles was recorded for the F-16, while MiG-29s increasingly hit drones with their cannon. Crewed aviation as the main interceptor of cheap targets does not hold up economically.

update Buk — Ukrainian air defense paired a Buk fire unit with a Kub launcher against jet Shaheds

The pairing is made possible by the related architecture of the two Soviet systems source. This is an example of how Ukraine assembles new interception means from old systems.

update SPYS — Germany allocates more than 1 billion euros for the production of Quantum WIY interceptors

The financing is designed for tens of thousands of interceptor drones source. They will be produced by the German-Ukrainian joint venture Quantum WIY Industries, created by Quantum Systems and WIY Drones.

  • Models: the serial Ukrainian STRILA and the experimental jet SPYS.
  • Production is located on the territory of Ukraine; the planned rate is 10 thousand interceptors a year.
  • The first deliveries are expected in winter 2026/27.

For scale: 10 thousand a year is less than a month's Russian output of strike drones, if one goes by Phantom Defense's estimate of 55 thousand Shaheds in 2025.

Tactical air defense as an offensive tool

The AFU's 3rd Army Corps: pushed Russian reconnaissance drones beyond the line of contact and covertly massed forces for an offensive

The air defense commander of the 3rd AC, Maksym Zaichenko, described how the restructured corps air defense became a means of supporting the offensive, not only of protection source. Russian fixed-wing reconnaissance drones withdrew beyond the front line. The Russian side partially lost the picture of the forward edge, and the 3rd AC covertly redeployed forces. The basis of the system is the 1030th Anti-Aircraft Missile and Artillery Regiment "Aquila".

[TECH] The PDF covers the system architecture, effectiveness factors and the economics of interception source.

  • Data. A single situational center fuses radar, visual and acoustic observation and ELINT (electronic reconnaissance). Air defense, EW, intelligence and infantry exchange data horizontally.
  • Command. A Battle Captain position has been introduced: an officer makes current decisions in the air battle, while the commander is freed up for planning.
  • Effectiveness. The average kill rate is now 0.5–0.7, the goal is about 80%.
  • Economics. A reconnaissance drone costs about $100 thousand, an interceptor $1–1.5 thousand. Even 2–3 interceptors per target cost $2–4.5 thousand versus $100 thousand.

The corps sees the main limitation in the detection of small targets and the quality of target designation, not in the means of engagement. Hence the bet on machine vision and increasing the number of radars, acoustics and optics. This is a retelling by the Russian channel KTsPN, but the theses themselves match the Ukrainian side.

Balloons: a high-altitude duel

Interception of carrier balloons has risen to 8–10 km

A Russian anti-aircraft drone of the 50th Varyag Brigade shot down a Ukrainian balloon carrying an FPV drone and a Starlink terminal at an altitude of about 10 km source. Separately, adviser Serhii "Flash" Beskrestnov published a video of a Russian anti-aircraft drone shooting down "our ball" at about 8 km and noted that the winds mostly blow toward Russia source.

A Russian channel claims that a balloon with a lead drone serves as a relay for a swarm, and destroying the carrier cuts the link for the whole group. This is its interpretation, not confirmed by data. According to a report from the R-280 Novorossiya highway, dozens of balloons conducted the attack: they dropped American Hornet-2s and Starlink-equipped FPV kamikazes. The channel advises escorting trucks with fire groups armed with smoothbore weapons source.

NPP Spetsradio is testing a cable balloon trap against low-flying drones

The design is as follows: two balloons of 150 m³ each stretch between them a composite cable with Kevlar cords every meter. The cable holds up to 800 kg source. In combination with the Gepard system, radars determine the drone's altitude, and winches place the cable on its course. In tests, the drone wound the cable around its propeller and hung. The developers admit that there are few balloons, and only combat use will show effectiveness.

Ukrainian long-range drones and their interception

Rubikon has intercepted over 7000 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones; about 70% of those now hit are long-range

The Russian Rubikon center publishes detailed interception statistics for its FPV air defense source. Over the last 30 days, more than 1800 targets were intercepted.

  • FP-2: 1010 interceptions in total, 578 of them in 30 days.
  • Maya: 717, an increase of +283.
  • Hornet: 849.
  • Leleka-100: 475.

The count for multicopters has exceeded 15 thousand. Of these, 70.4% are heavy Ukrainian Baba Yaga hexacopters, and the FPV share has grown to 12.2% source. These are claims by one side, but the dynamics are telling: Ukraine's mass long-range strike has shifted toward the FP-2 and the Maya.

update FP-2 — spotted with two S-5 unguided rocket pods

Footage of Rubikon's work shows a Ukrainian FP-2 with suspended S-5 unguided rockets source. Another Russian channel suggests that FP-1/FP-2s carry launchers for S-8s source. If this is not a one-off conversion, the long-range drone is becoming a carrier of rocket armament, not just a warhead.

The Ukrainian fixed-wing strike aircraft "Maya (005)" with Starlink is now available to units through the state marketplace source. Satellite communications on medium-range strike drones are moving from field modifications to standard procurement.

Countering AI and passive protection

Russian assault troops are stretching black ribbons over roads against AI-enabled drones

In the Dobropillia direction, the ribbons break up the image of moving objects for onboard recognition, and the drone loses its target source. There, too, routes are laid behind spoil heaps: the heaps block the radio link, and the drone loses its picture source. These are the first field techniques against Ukrainian machine vision described from the Russian side.

Anti-drone nets: the Northern Bridge in Kyiv and the patrol ship Tatarstan

The Northern Bridge in Kyiv has been hung with a light net. Russian channels assess its strength as low, and the load-bearing structures remain exposed source. The bridge deck damaged on October 4 was restored and covered with a metal plate source. Protective nets have also appeared on the flagship of the Caspian Flotilla, the Project 11661K patrol ship Tatarstan source.

The Ukrainian side is mounting net launchers with automatic aiming on UGVs

A Russian channel records that net launchers on ground robotic systems (UGVs) with automatic drone recognition and range measurement are encountered more and more often source. A mobile UGV is becoming a point of close-in counter-drone defense.

Ground robots

The 3rd AC airdrops kamikaze UGVs from bomber drones

In the autumn Operation Vivaldi, the 3rd Army Corps regained 176 km² and captured no fewer than 250 Russian servicemen source. One of the new tactics is dropping kamikaze UGVs (suicide ground robots) from heavy bomber drones. It is used by the NC13 strike UGV unit under the command of Junior Lieutenant Mykola "Makar" Zinkevych. In 2025, this unit held a position for a month and a half with a ground drone armed with a machine gun. The "air carrier plus ground striker" combination removes the main problem of UGVs — approaching the target through minefields and broken roads.

update Kurier — a Chinese trail among the developers and a flamethrower version for the NBC protection troops

InformNapalm established that the developers of the Russian Kurier UGV are linked to companies that systematically handled the import of Chinese electronics, batteries and radio modules source. According to analysts, in the future it would be more logical to deliver such UGVs with heavy drones like the Mangas rather than the Il-76 source.

At the Tsentr-2026 exercise, the Kurier performed two new tasks source:

  • diverted attention with fire while assault groups covertly moved to the line;
  • in the version for the NBC (radiological, chemical and biological protection) troops, carried a module of rocket-propelled infantry flamethrowers.

The Shablia weapon module is being integrated on the VEPR UGV in five modifications

The agreement was signed by Partner-VS and ROBONEERS source. A logistics and evacuation platform is turning into a mobile fire system.

Russian countermeasures and communications

It is proposed to convert Alazan anti-hail rockets into light SAMs at ~1 million rubles each

This concerns 82-mm rockets with a range of up to 10 km and an altitude of up to 8 km, which are still produced for cloud dispersal. A launcher holds 12 rounds source. In a guided version, this is most likely a light SAM (surface-to-air guided missile) against drones. In price, it is more expensive than the TKB-1055 Gvozd counter-drone missile, but noticeably cheaper than the Pantsir's 9M335 and the Tor's 9M338K missiles.

OVS-1: fiber-optic remoting of the Sova/Kuznechik ground station to 20 km

The media converter makes it possible to move the operator 20 km away from the antennas in the "hot zone" source. For comparison: ordinary cable remoting gives hundreds of meters.

[TECH] The post has a diagram of two RX/TX nodes and FC connectors for standard FPV drone spools. The price is 25 620 rubles. One kit transmits one signal, so video and control require two fibers and two kits.

Argus — a stationary drone detector with video interception in the 70–8500 MHz range

The system is designed for air observation posts source. It has a remote workstation; the operator can work from a dugout and output to several screens.

update Tsitadel — the Russian MoD reported delivery to the troops along with Zubr turrets

Deputy Defense Minister Aleksandr Sanchik reported the delivery of radars and Zubr and Tsitadel systems to air defense units and mobile fire groups. Anti-drone cartridges are named separately source.

At sea: drones against civilian shipping

A naval and an aerial drone sank a bulk carrier in Bulgaria's exclusive economic zone for the first time

At around 03:00, two vessels were attacked in Bulgaria's EEZ (exclusive economic zone) source. The Togo-flagged ALFA WATAN sank; the fate of the crew is unknown. A fire broke out on the Palau-flagged ABLE, and 18 people were evacuated. Prime Minister Rumen Radev said the vessels were attacked by a naval and an aerial drone.

Zelensky called the drones Russian source. Bulgaria's defense minister demanded the debris as evidence source. This is the first such case off the coast of Bulgaria. A day earlier, the Turkish Royad Mammadov carrying Ukrainian corn sank in Romania's EEZ.

Uncrewed boats set fire to the loaded Aframax tanker Rio in the Sochi roadstead

Russia's Ministry of Transport reported an attack by USVs (uncrewed surface vessels) on a Liberian-flagged tanker carrying oil from Novorossiysk to India source. 23 crew members were rescued; firefighting will begin after the intensity of the burning decreases. InformNapalm writes that the origin and circumstances of the strike have not been reliably established, and a Ukrainian response is so far only a hypothesis. Analyst Anton Pavlushko notes that the tanker is demonstratively burning right in the Sochi roadstead source.

Military AI and cyberattacks

The Artex AI agent was used for attacks on South Korean financial companies

According to the WSJ, at least seven companies were attacked, and data on about 68 thousand people was stolen source. The infrastructure was spread across two dozen IP addresses in a dozen countries. Artex is an offensive agent to which GPT, Claude or DeepSeek can be connected. It searches for vulnerabilities and plans the attack chain by itself. The publication calls it Chinese.

A backdoor in an open model can be built over a weekend for less than $50

ProjectDiscovery embedded a backdoor in Qwen 7B and connected the model to the Codex agent source. On a trigger phrase, the model secretly exfiltrated a .env file with keys. The trigger rate was 100%, with no false triggers on ordinary queries. According to Anthropic's work with the UK AI Security Institute, about 250 poisoned documents are enough for models from 600 million to 13 billion parameters, and protective fine-tuning does not remove the backdoor.

For military developers who pull abliterated models (with the ability to refuse removed) into their loop, the conclusion is direct. What needs to be controlled is the model's rights to the network and to executing commands, not its behavior in tests.

Europe, the US, Africa, Cuba

Auterion showed the Nemyx VLS vertical launcher for swarms of drones from different manufacturers

The launcher is the hardware continuation of the Nemyx swarm software source. The aircraft are stored in tubes, charge, update software and stand on duty without being opened. An electric lift adds 30% more aircraft in the same volume. The modules are assembled into 2×2 or 4×4 blocks or fill an ISO container. The operator confirms each target, while Nemyx handles navigation, formation and terminal guidance.

Aircraft partners are SkyFall, Rheinmetall, DeltaQuad and others. Since July, Auterion and SkyFall have been supplying the AFU with 50 thousand Shrike FPVs with the Skynode S module. The contract of about 90 million euros is paid for by Germany.

[TECH] Full Skynode S specifications:

  • dimensions 49×39×21 mm, mass 14 g for the board plus 24 g for the heatsink;
  • an NPU (a specialized processor for neural networks) of 2.3 TOPS (trillion operations per second);
  • support for Doodle Labs, Silvus and Persistent Systems radios;
  • exchange with TAK (a tactical mapping system) via CoT.

Israel's Microcon Vision released the 1.9-kg MICRO-D laser designator for small drones

A small drone gains a target illumination function for guided weapons that was previously available only on large platforms source. The unit has seven sensor channels, a 30 mJ laser to NATO standard STANAG 3733, and optional AI target recognition and MAVLink. The product is not subject to ITAR and does not use germanium. According to Defence Blog, the first orders have already been received, with deliveries from the end of 2026 source.

update Linza and Zum — the National Guard of Ukraine ordered deliveries for 2027, capacity in Germany will grow fivefold

The new contract with Quantum Frontline Industries is larger than the agreement for 2026 source.

  • Linza 3.0 — a 12-inch bomber: up to 4 kg payload, 15 km, an hour in the air.
  • Zum 3.0 — a reconnaissance drone with a 90x hybrid zoom and visual-inertial navigation.

Production of Ukrainian drones is moving to a European industrial base.

SOUTHCOM deployed reconnaissance USVs at the Guantanamo base

This is the first stage of a site for the new Autonomous Warfare Command (SAWC) source. The boats are already supporting operations of the Western Hemisphere task force against drug cartels. The Cuban base is becoming a test and training hub for autonomous systems.

update Garpiya — the "Africa Corps" used it to strike rebels in northern Mali

The strike was delivered in Tinzaouaten, and objective-monitoring footage has been published source. In Mali, the Russian grouping also uses the Lancet, Forpost-RU, Inokhodets and Kub. Against this background, Tuareg separatists abandoned Kidal because of air strikes source.

Priority 2. Military innovation

Drone Forces with an end-to-end vertical have been created in the AFU's Land Forces

The structure is as follows: a company in each battalion, a battalion in a brigade, a regiment in a corps source. The Unmanned Systems Directorate is headed by Colonel Andrii Ostapenko. This is not a separate branch of service but a built-in component of combined-arms units source. According to the AFU, drones account for up to 80% of hits on personnel and about 70% of intelligence data.

Fire Point: "several hundred long-range drones a day" and criticism of the missile program

In a podcast translated by the Russian side, Fire Point CEO Iryna Terekh and the commander of the 1st Center of the USF, "Kasper", forecast 6–7 thousand long-range strikes a month in 2026 source. For comparison: in 2024 the count was in the hundreds per month. Short contracts and fragmented management are named as weak points. These are claims by an interested party.

In parallel, former NSDC deputy secretary Serhii Kryvonos called Fire Point's missile program a "sham" with spending of over $2 billion source. LIGA reports that the previous Ukrainian ballistic program was derailed by a simultaneous strike on the entire production chain. The new one is being built with redundancy source.

NATO is building a "Kill Web" of drones, sensors and AI on the eastern flank

Under the Eastern Flank Deterrence Initiative, the alliance has announced more than $40 billion for countering drones over five years source. The number of drone operators is planned to increase fivefold by the end of 2027. A forward zone saturated with unmanned systems is to absorb the first blow.

Industry and deals

  • Elbit Systems and Serbia's Jugoimport SDPR opened a combat drone assembly plant near Belgrade. Elbit's stake is 51%, the plant has about 100 employees, and three more enterprises are planned source.
  • Anduril received a $2.9 billion US Navy contract for Virginia submarine components and is investing $3.7 billion in a shipyard near Baltimore source.
  • Greece is preparing to purchase four Israeli BlueWhale autonomous underwater vehicles for ASW and mine hunting source.
  • The uncrewed vessel Pioneer and the ARGOS underwater vehicle performed more than 40 dives under shore control in waves of up to 2 m. The work was done under an ESA contract; one dive was streamed to the Bundeswehr's Cyber Innovation Hub source.

Russia is hiding its strategic aviation under a roof

Vantor images record hangars of 100×230×33 m and 90×220 m at Ramenskoye airfield source. At Engels-2, the first three hangars of roughly 60×60 m are being built for the Tu-160 or Tu-95 source. This is a direct response to drone strikes on airfields. The condition of the aircraft will no longer be visible from outside.

Missiles: HACM and M51.3

The US for the first time released in flight the HACM hypersonic missile with a ramjet engine. The test took place over a range in Australia; the test program was cut from seven flights to five source. France for the first time launched the M51.3 from the submarine Le Vigilant source. Macron announced a program of hypersonic maneuvering strategic missiles source.

Strikes on infrastructure in both directions. On the night of October 6, 650 drones flew toward the Moscow region; 868 were shot down over Russia in total. The target was the Volodarskaya LPDS (linear production and dispatch station) — a node of Moscow's ring petroleum products pipeline that feeds the airports source. A Ukrainian analyst sees a consistent "nibbling" of the system: the Ryazan refinery on September 6, the Moscow refinery on September 20, now the node between them source.

Russia responded with a combined strike. According to Russian channels, 10 Tu-95MS and 3 Tu-160 were in the air, and Kh-101s, Kalibrs from the Caspian and Iskanders were used. The Kremenchuk HPP and the Trypilska TPP were hit source. Kyiv's Omega Telecom data center shut down. This is already the fourth data center in the capital in a couple of weeks source.

The war of bridges. A span of the Chonhar bridge to Crimea has collapsed; a duplicate crossing has already been laid nearby source. Russian strikes with FABs with UMPK on Zaporizhzhia's bridges are again almost fruitless source. OSINT researcher Chris O'Wiki recalls that only Kh-22s put the bridge at Zatoka out of action for longer than two weeks, and repairs are usually cheaper than the munitions expended source. Both sides are betting on a "logistics lockdown" rather than the destruction of individual objects.

Front. In September, the Russian Aerospace Forces used a record 9021 aerial bombs, the fourth record month in a row source. The commander of the USF, "Madyar", records an increase in hits on Russian infantry of 39.7% compared with early September and of 76.5% compared with early August. He links this to covert mobilization, and the peak falls on the Azov sector near Dobropillia source.

Rybar admits a crisis near Lyman: numerical superiority and an "advantage in drones" are on the Ukrainian side source. Near Dobropillia, according to him, the situation is developing in favor of the Russian Armed Forces source. The Russian MoD claimed a record 17 Flamingos shot down in a day. The Barantchik channel sees this as a sign of their growing production source.

Signals on the horizon:

  • The Lithuanian Seimas approved in second reading the lifting of the constitutional ban on nuclear weapons; the final vote is scheduled for January 12, 2027 source.
  • Poland is preparing a law on a "pre-war state" source.
  • An armed group from Belarus entered Latvia and stole surveillance cameras source.
  • From December, Sweden will cover with Patriot the Ukraine aid hub in Rzeszow, through which more than 80% of cargo passes source.
  • South Korea supplied 176 thousand t of fuel to Russia in two months, 31% of seaborne imports of petroleum products in August source.
  • Ukraine's MoD will terminate some outdated contracts and free up 15.6 billion hryvnias for higher-priority needs source.

What to watch

  1. Drone communications are moving under the protection of satellite bands and network protocols. SineLink 2 in the L/S-band and Starlink on the Maya and on balloons knock out mass trench EW.
  2. Ukraine is losing the economics of intercepting jet Gerans. The share of jet drones is growing toward 80%, and the Mirages expend half a delivery in two weeks. The bet is on 20 interceptor manufacturers and the German billion for STRILA and SPYS.
  3. Tactical air defense has become an offensive tool. The 3rd AC's experience (a single situational center, Battle Captain, a $1.5 thousand interceptor versus a $100 thousand reconnaissance drone) is a ready-made model for the corps of both sides.
  4. The field fight against machine vision has begun. Black ribbons over roads against AI guidance and backdoors in open models against AI agents show that both onboard and staff AI are vulnerable.
  5. The Black Sea escalation has reached the EEZs of NATO countries. A bulk carrier was sunk in Bulgaria's EEZ, and Zelensky called the drones Russian. A separate episode is the loaded tanker set on fire near Sochi.

What's new in UAVs and counter-UAV

  • SineLink 2 (used by the Ukrainian side according to a Russian channel's assessment) — 140 km, L/S-bands, swarm of up to 32 aircraft, GPS-free navigation by beacons.
  • SHOT-L1 (Ukraine) — passive homing on EW stations; 80 km; 4 kg payload.
  • [upd] FP-2 (Ukraine) — with S-5 unguided rocket pods.
  • [upd] Maya (Ukraine) — Starlink version on Brave1 Market.
  • [upd] SPYS and STRILA (German-Ukrainian JV) — more than 1 billion euros, 10 thousand a year.
  • [upd] Buk plus Kub (Ukraine) — a pairing against jet Shaheds.
  • Alazan (Russia) — an anti-hail rocket as a light SAM for ~1 million rubles.
  • NPP Spetsradio cable balloon trap (Russia) — two balloons of 150 m³ each, the cable holds 800 kg.
  • OVS-1 (Russia) — fiber-optic remoting of a ground station to 20 km.
  • Argus (Russia) — 70–8500 MHz drone detector with video interception.
  • Kamikaze UGVs dropped from bomber drones (Ukraine, NC13).
  • Nemyx VLS (Auterion, US/Germany) — tube launcher for swarms.
  • MICRO-D (Israel) — 1.9 kg laser designator for small drones.
  • K3 SCOUT with the Giraffe 1X radar (UK/Sweden) — a USV as a carrier of a drone detection radar.

Military space and space-derived data

update Rassvet — Bureau 1440 showed three user terminals, including the concept of a wearable "MINI"

The Russian low-orbit constellation is getting a ground segment similar to the Starlink lineup source.

  • 1440.ULTRA — serial, up to 700 Mbit/s, IP67 protection, works on the move.
  • 1440.ZEMLYA — for trains at speeds of up to 400 km/h.
  • 1440.MINI — so far a concept at ~100 Mbit/s.

Commercial launch is scheduled for 2027 source. The military significance lies in the "MINI": Russian channels directly call it a candidate for Gerans and other drones source. This is exactly the role that Starlink Mini plays for the Ukrainian side.

Very low orbits. Viridian Space received a $225 thousand NASA STTR grant (a program for technology transfer to small business) for aerodynamic maneuvering of satellites below 250 km source. VLEO (very low Earth orbit) offers gains in optical reconnaissance resolution and communications latency.

Industry. The bottleneck of megaconstellations is becoming components, not rockets. AIA and PwC identified nine scarce categories, including valves, actuators and transformers. Some items are made by one or two suppliers source.

Access to data. Dnipro Osint published high-quality satellite images of the collapsed Chonhar bridge source.

Under the radar

  • Varyag is taking over the boats of the 18th Army in the Dnipro delta source. HUR believes that the 18th Army's naval drones are subordinated to the 50th Varyag Brigade. Russia is bringing USVs, aerial reconnaissance, strike assets, EW and UGVs into a single "detected — struck" chain. An example is the combination of a ZALA reconnaissance drone and a Lancet against a Ukrainian boat with combat swimmers near Snake Island. Ukrainian intelligence calls the degree of autonomy of Russian drones one of its main priorities.
  • XTEND patented an architecture in which the payload controls the flight source. US Patent No. 12,743,960: a sensor passes commands to the controller via the XOS platform — obstacle avoidance, evasion, interception, countermeasures. This is a step toward modular "plug in a sensor — get a behavior" autonomy.
  • The British K3 SCOUT USV received a Saab Giraffe 1X radar source. The radar detects air targets at up to 75 km. The 8.4 m boat reaches 55 knots, covers 650 miles and carries 600 kg on Auterion's open architecture. The uncrewed boat is becoming a remote early-warning post for drones.
  • The Army plant in McAlester will load warheads for Eric Schmidt's Perennial Autonomy source. A US state ammunition plant operating since 1943 is shifting to small warheads for drones. Perennial's products — interceptors of the Merops system and the Hornet — are used by the Ukrainian side.
  • A step-by-step guide to deploying YOLOv8/YOLO11 on the RK3588 NPU source. [TECH] It describes export to ONNX (an open neural network format), removal of post-processing nodes and INT8 quantization (compressing weights to 8-bit integers). This is a cheap base for onboard terminal guidance.
  • DII launched ASTRA Intelligence — a map of robotics supply chains source. The database contains 1500 companies, 6500 products and 68 countries. This is a new open tool for finding alternative suppliers and for supply-chain intelligence.

What are the Chinese comrades up to?

  • The aircraft carrier Shandong has been under repair on Hainan for nine months. By analogy with the Liaoning's repair, it may be completed in early 2027. The Type 055 destroyer Yan'an in the neighboring dock has lost its main mast source.
  • The PLA Eastern Theater Command's 73rd Group Army is practicing a landing in the Taiwan direction. Amphibious ZLT-05s and ZBD-05s are embarking on Type 072 landing ships source.
  • An official PLA publication demands that survivability be placed above firepower. In the "detected — destroyed" era, it proposes building every exercise around the formula "hide — protect — maintain communications", including counter-drone means and jam-resistant communications source.
  • RoboParty unveiled the RP1 humanoid with a promise to fully open the platform. Actuators, low-level control and the training stack are promised. Mass production — from October to December source.
  • Tianjin University showed a 3-gram non-invasive EEG interface. Among the application scenarios is monitoring the psychophysiological state of security forces personnel in the field source.
  • Chinese drone operators took part in the Russian Tsentr-2026 exercise. A Russian channel assesses their training as far from combat reality source.

  • Ukraine's Phantom Defense has brought a full C-UAS loop to export (Counter-Unmanned Aircraft Systems — means of countering drones) source. It includes the Kupol platform with the SAPIENT protocol, the Streamhunter video signal interceptor with 30 km range and the Skydarix radar with 20 km range. The company's estimate is 55 thousand Shaheds launched by Russia in 2025. This confirms the 3rd AC's thesis: the problem is in the sensor field, not the means of engagement.
  • The Netherlands and EOS signed a letter of intent to turn the Apollo laser into an operational C-UAS source. Power of 100–150 kW, more than 200 shots autonomously. Europe is looking for a cheap shot, not new missiles.
  • Boeing is tripling output of PAC-3 MSE seekers under a $14.7 billion contract source. Lockheed is raising interceptor output from 600 to 2000 a year. The Western answer to depleted stocks is so far "more expensive missiles", which diverges from the Ukrainian practice of cheap interceptors.
  • Advanced Navigation is opening a plant in Huntsville for navigation resistant to GPS jamming and spoofing source. India's ideaForge considers jam-resistant navigation and communications the basis for the transition to strike systems source. This is the same shift as in SineLink 2: drone survival under EW is becoming the basis of the product.
  • Ukraine's General Cherry showed the 320 km/h Bullet interceptor against Gerans in London source. A speed of 320 km/h is close to the lower limit of what is required against jet targets, as both Ukrainian and Russian channels say.
  • Shield AI has launched production and testing of the autonomous X-BAT strike aircraft source. American fighter drone programs are moving from prototypes to series production, while on the Ukrainian front autonomy is growing from the bottom up — from FPVs and interceptors.
