Ukraine: Russian long-range strikes on energy
KRSN — Russia for the first time used a warhead for blowing up power line towers on a jet drone
Russian jet-powered Gerans for the first time carried a specialized KRSN (shaped-charge cutting special payload). This means strikes on the power system are shifting from generation to distribution networks, against which there was previously no tool for pinpoint destruction. This was reported by expert Serhii "Flash" Beskrestnov source. His post became the most widely shared of the day: about 6.7 thousand forwards.
According to Beskrestnov, KRSN consists of a main charge weighing 40 kg and four damage modules. The Battle Technic channel estimates each module at about 5 kg, which puts the whole payload at about 60 kg source. For comparison: the export Garpiya-A1(E) is declared with a warhead of about 50 kg. A shaped charge concentrates the energy of the explosion at one point and cuts metal. That is why it is designed for power line (PTL) towers, bridge trusses and concrete-encased energy facilities, against which a conventional high-explosive fragmentation warhead performs poorly.
Emergency power cuts were immediately introduced in Kyiv. The Russian channel "Voenny Osvedomitel" publishes a compilation of strikes on power lines near Kyiv and warns: destroying several lines will not bring down distribution, because the network is multiply redundant. A tangible effect can only be expected from systematic repeat strikes source.
This is a signal, not background. The new warhead makes distribution networks a regular target on the eve of the heating season.
The Tsimbulovo drone port has gone underground — the share of Geran-5 in strikes on Kyiv rose from 10% to 75%
Ukrainian satellite reconnaissance records that the main Russian launch hub for Gerans in Oryol Oblast has become practically invulnerable to light strike drones. Over the month, the following was built there source:
• a new section with eight dome-shaped shelters and a new launcher;
• six garages and another 14 along the access road;
• pads for six new launchers for the Geran-5;
• towers, probably for communications or counter-drone nets.
Above-ground storage facilities have been converted into underground ones. According to the Ukrainian estimate, destroying them now requires dozens of direct hits on a single point. Whereas previously about a hundred drones stood in the open, now the satellite sees no more than a dozen source. The growth in the number of launchers is directly linked to the switch to the jet-powered modification: a month ago the Geran-5 accounted for about 10% of launches against Kyiv, now 75%.
The Russian KTsPN translated a Ukrainian OSINT (open-source intelligence) analysis of the drone port network. [TECH] The document contains a count of facilities from satellite imagery and a history of strikes on drone ports source. Key figures:
• Tsimbulovo covers about 5 km² 180 km from the border, has been under construction since August 2024, the developer is Alabuga;
• 23 launchers, 387 garages and 26 underground storage facilities have been built; another 4 launchers and 83 garages are planned;
• storage capacity — up to 3 thousand warheads;
• at the main drone ports in Bryansk, Rostov, Smolensk, Oryol oblasts, Krasnodar Krai and Crimea, at least 63 launchers have been counted.
The Ukrainian authors explicitly name launch operators as the priority target, as the scarcest resource. Launch infrastructure facilities, by contrast, are restored quickly and cheaply.
A 32-element CRPA antenna with Alabuga markings found on a Russian strike drone
A 32-element CRPA antenna (Controlled Reception Pattern Antenna — a jam-resistant satellite navigation antenna with a controlled radiation pattern) has been found on Russian strike drones. This is a notable leap in the jamming resistance of GNSS (global navigation satellite systems) navigation. The export Garpiya-A1(E) carries a four-element Kometa-M4, and each new element makes it possible to "null" one more jamming direction.
Beskrestnov believes the antenna is Chinese. It bears the ALB marking applied by Alabuga, so he attributes the find to a "Shahed". Exactly where the sample was taken from is still unclear source. According to him, Russian manufacturers are preparing 20-element antennas, and 24-element ones by 2027. The Russian channel Payload confirms the find with the same photo source.
update Iskander — debris of a modification with a penetrating warhead and an additional booster stage found in Kyiv
After the night strike, debris of an Iskander-M with a previously unknown penetrating warhead was found in Kyiv source. The "Voenny Optimist" channel points to a nose section with an additional booster stage. In its version, this confirms the existence of a cheaper modification for hitting especially hardened targets, already used against metallurgical plants source. Claims about the cost come only from the Russian channel and are unconfirmed.
update Garpiya-A1(E) — Ukrainian OSINT geolocated the final assembly shop in Izhevsk
The Ukrainian project Dnipro Osint, together with the KiberBoroshno geolocators, established the drone's assembly site from footage of an Almaz-Antey promo video source. It is building No. 12 of the former Production 300 of the Izhevsk Mechanical Plant, which IEMZ Kupol bought in 2019. According to the same data, the Russian MoD contract for launching production of the Garpiya-A1 (more than 1 billion rubles) is dated 2023, and the first debris in Ukraine was recorded on September 13, 2024.
The Russian channel "Tekhnologii BPLA" adds that the promo video included a new "medium-range" strike drone based on the Garpiya. According to the channel, this drone has already been used against Ukraine in isolated cases source. The export version will be shown at Airshow China in Zhuhai on November 10–15 source.
Ukraine: intercepting jet-powered Gerans
P1-SUN JetKiller — a propeller-driven Ukrainian interceptor shot down a Geran-5, the sixth confirmed video episode
Ukrainian interceptors against jet drones are ceasing to be one-offs. The list of types credited with a Geran-5 has grown to five. The new entrant is SkyFall's P1-SUN JetKiller. The target was hit by operators of Lasar's Group of the National Guard of Ukraine, and the vehicle was controlled via SkyFall's proprietary remote control system, which works "from anywhere in the world" source.
Declared characteristics: speed 370 km/h, range up to 30 km, ceiling 9000 m, 15 minutes of flight, 500 g warhead, day and night cameras. There is a version with an AI (artificial intelligence) module source. An important detail from the "Oko Gora" channel: speed 270–290 km/h source.
The Shrike channel compiled the known interceptors with confirmed Geran-5 kills source:
• the "SBU one" — jet-powered, two videos;
• STING S (Wild Hornets) — propeller-driven, three videos;
• SPYS — propeller-driven, one video;
• "Prytula's drone" — jet-powered, one video;
• P1-SUN JetKiller — propeller-driven, one video.
Statistics: interception of jet drones about 72–84% versus 97% for piston-engined ones
The day's figures show where the limit of Ukrainian air defense capabilities lies. During daylight hours the Air Force shot down 146 jet-powered Shaheds out of 174, i.e. 83.9%, and 108 piston-engined ones out of 111, i.e. 97.3% source. Shrike counted 300 drones over the full day, 115 of them jet-powered. If one assumes the usual 90% kill rate for piston-engined ones, that leaves about 72% for jet-powered ones source.
The monthly total from "Oko Gora": in September 6300 Gerans, Gerberas, Banderols and Dan-Ts were launched. 81% were shot down; on average 210 launches per day, 35% more than in August source. Of these, 2242, or 36%, were jet-powered source.
The forecast pressure is rising. CBS, citing the Come Back Alive foundation, estimates September production in Russia at about 1200 Geran-4s and 800 Geran-5s. Ukrainian analyst Viktoriia Chekalina allows for raids of up to 1500 units at a time source.
F-16s increasingly use the gun — 10 thousand 20 mm rounds needed per day
The shortage of air-to-air missiles is forcing Ukrainian F-16s to use the M61A1 Vulcan gun more and more often. According to Bloomberg, about 150 rounds are spent per interception. Hence a need for about 10 thousand rounds a day, and Kyiv is negotiating tens of thousands of rounds with European countries and manufacturers source.
Meanwhile, the WSJ writes that more than half of Ukrainian F-16s are idle. Scheduled maintenance after 300 flight hours at Belgium's Sabena Aerospace takes up to 40 weeks versus 2–6 weeks in the US source. Air Force Commander Anatolii Kryvonozhko reported that F-16s have shot down more than 3150 targets, including about 2500 UAVs source.
Criticism within Ukraine is growing. Drone officer Yurii Kasianov calls the bet on jet interceptor drones a mistake and demands investment in a domestic short-range SAM system (surface-to-air missile system) instead of Fire Point's long-range projects source.
Frontline robotics
DevDroid: more than 1000 strike UGVs in service — armed ground robots have gone serial
Ukrainian manufacturer DevDroid reports more than 1000 of its Droid TW-12.7 and Droid NW 40 strike UGVs (unmanned ground vehicles) in operation, all of which have completed combat missions source. This is the first public count of strike, rather than logistics, robots in the thousands. For comparison, the AFU General Staff reports 2803 Russian UGVs destroyed over the entire war source.
Frodo — a six-wheeled Ukrainian UGV with five communication channels, including Starlink
Frontline Robotics presented a universal platform for logistics, evacuation and strike missions source. Its specifications:
• 6×6 suspension, speed up to 40 km/h;
• payload 200 kg standard and up to 400 kg maximum;
• range 150 km, ground clearance adjustable from 170 to 330 mm;
• remains mobile after losing a wheel.
Control supports Starlink, LTE, Silvus, ELRS (ExpressLRS — an open radio control protocol) and TBS. The platform is compatible with the Burya turret and modules for an automatic grenade launcher or heavy machine gun source. The UGV has been codified, and the manufacturer has begun training operators.
Two more Ukrainian models in the day's roundup:
• VARKHAN — a wheeled 4×4 with independent suspension, officially adopted by the AFU; carries hundreds of kilograms over tens of kilometers source.
• Mangust 4×4 from Drone Solutions — a UGV with a gasoline internal combustion engine (ICE), rare for Ukraine, for the sake of endurance and speed source.
update PIDRYV — Ukrainian electromagnetic mine trawl delivered to up to three brigades and codified in NATO
The trawl against mines with magnetic fuzes has moved from testing to the troops source. The manufacturer explains the niche: 30–40% of remotely laid mines have a magnetic initiator. The system triggers detonation up to 7 m ahead of the carrier while on the move; it has been tested on armored vehicles, a UGV and a demining vehicle. On an HMMWV, detonation at 5 m at a speed of 45 km/h is claimed source. A Russian engineering channel admits that the solution essentially replicates two Soviet-type EMT attachments, but it works source.
The commander of the 96th support battalion of the 3rd Army Corps calls assault with UGVs the most effective method. The robot clears a foot route of mines at 4–5 km/h, many times faster than a sapper source.
Russia: communications, engines, counter-drone assets
Germes v7 relay — anti-spoofing built into the protocol and working along the whole chain
The new version of the relay for FPV drones solves the problem of control hijacking source. The v7 protocol combines AES-128 encryption (a standard block cipher with a 128-bit key), FHSS (frequency hopping) and anti-spoofing. When a spoofing source appears, the system automatically switches to a free channel, and protection is maintained along the entire "controller — relay — aircraft" chain.
Configuration and flashing are done from the controller without physical access to the device, which matters for a relay hanging on a mast or a drone. The built-in battery provides 2.5 hours with hot swap. There are two variants: ELRS and Germes at the input with Germes at the output, or Germes to Germes. There is a compatibility catch: v7 receivers do not accept the signal of old v6.5 transmitters.
Polymer-composite engines for UAVs have reached TRL 8 — production of tens of thousands per month claimed
Russian engineers (photo from Samara University, NTI support) replaced some aluminum parts of two-stroke engines with high-temperature composites, injection-molded or FDM-printed source. The engine currently accounts for 30–40% of a drone's price. By the developers' calculations, its share will fall below 15%, and the whole vehicle will become 15–25% cheaper source.
The lineup includes engines of 5, 12 and 24 hp. Electronic fuel injection is integrated with the flight controller, saves 10–40% of fuel and allows the engine to be started in flight. Since 2023, 32 power plant variants have been built and more than 24 tests conducted. The project is at TRL 8 (Technology Readiness Level; 8 means testing in real conditions). The declared next stage is series production of tens of thousands of engines per month. The service life of the composites in long-term operation has yet to be proven.
ZALA offers a Russian waterjet propulsion system for USVs
ZALA has assembled an engine and waterjet for USVs (unmanned surface vessels) and small craft. This removes import dependence precisely where carrier boats are becoming mass-produced source. The system consists of the four-cylinder fuel-injected KAMA-150 ICE with a displacement of 2.7 l and the KAMA-180 waterjet with a 180 mm mixed-flow impeller. The waterjet works in shallow water and overgrown waters without the risk of damaging a propeller. The company's own know-how is a heat-exchanger cooling system.
Three more counter-drone solutions of the day:
• The Black Sea Fleet showed an MFG (mobile fire group) with the Katran UAV detection and engagement system and Krechet thermal sights developed by the PPSh Laboratory source.
• The operation of the Zubr automated anti-aircraft system with four PKT machine guns with target pointing and selection was shown source.
• Under the direction of Deputy Defense Minister Aleksandr Sanchik, new APS (active protection systems) for armored vehicles against drones were trialed source.
update Rubikon — 4446 Ukrainian unmanned platforms hit in September, mobile fire groups shown for the first time
The Russian Rubikon center reported a record September: 6072 published episodes, 16% more than the June record source. 4446 Ukrainian unmanned platforms were hit, 48% more than in August:
• multicopters — 29% more;
• fixed-wing — 105% more;
• UGVs — 37% more.
The report counts 875 long-range UAVs. The work of the center's own MFGs was shown for the first time.
Europe, NATO and allies: counter-UAV
Skyhammer — Britain's Cambridge Aerospace wants to produce a cheap interceptor in Japan
The company is building a Japanese supply chain before offering Skyhammer to the Self-Defense Forces. This is a localization model in which a country gets a mass-produced counter-drone munition without import dependence source.
SMASH — the US ordered $150 million worth of Israeli "smart" sights to protect bases
The US DoD's Joint Interagency Task Force 401 concluded a framework contract with Smart Shooter. The SMASH sight acquires and tracks a target out to 250 m and allows an infantryman to shoot down a small drone with a standard-issue rifle source.
Babcock bets on ground robots from 13 to 500 kg
At the DVD 2026 exhibition, Britain's Babcock signed two agreements source. The first is with Estonia's Ark Robotics on possible localization in the UK of the light A1 robot: weight 13 kg, speed 40 km/h, range 20 km, payload 15 kg. The second is with Digital Concepts Engineering on integrating the 500 kg X-Series platform with the Marionette universal control system. The point is a single control loop for robots from different manufacturers from platoon to battalion.
France splits CAESAR batteries into pairs — a response to constant drone surveillance
The 68th Artillery Regiment is moving from four-gun sections to groups of two howitzers operating autonomously. A separate section prepares positions in advance, sets up decoys and brings up ammunition. Between fire missions the vehicles are concealed with minimal electronic emissions source. The scheme was tested at the Orion 2026 exercise; the first battery will switch to it next year.
Denmark began testing infrastructure for the MQ-9B using a German aircraft
A German MQ-9B flew along Jutland, with the operator controlling it from Germany, while Danish military personnel and air traffic controllers practiced its integration source. Communications, interaction with civil aviation and actions in case of loss of control links were tested. Denmark has ordered four aircraft for about $600 million, available from 2028 at Aalborg air base. The tasks are monitoring Russian ships and electronic intelligence on the GIUK line (Greenland — Iceland — United Kingdom).
Military AI and autonomy
Occam Industries raised €3.8 million for autonomy software that installs on serial drones without modification
The British-Ukrainian startup has brought its funding to €7 million source. The key feature is that autonomous functions are built into drones already in production without changes to design or manufacturing source.
The Russian side is responding organizationally, but slowly. Under a list of presidential instructions, the government and the Russian Academy of Sciences must "consider the issue" of a center for hardware-software technologies of autonomous systems based at ISP RAS, with a report due by June 1, 2027 source.
Priority 2. Military innovation
US: Musk and Luckey will study "the future of war", and the military will get an AI branch
Secretary Hegseth announced Project Meridian led by Elon Musk (SpaceX), Palmer Luckey (Anduril) and Newt Gingrich, under the department's CTO Emil Michael source. His formulation of the lesson of Ukraine: what decides is not a specific type of drone, but a system that maximally accelerates adaptation, plus mass autonomous assets that change the cost ratio source.
In parallel, on September 19 Trump announced the creation of an artificial intelligence force as a new branch of the armed forces source. The Pentagon is launching the "Fortress America" project for autonomous power supply of large bases in case the civilian grid is knocked out source. Against the backdrop of the strike campaign on Ukrainian energy, this is a direct transfer of experience.
The US Navy will buy 30 medium unmanned vessels for $1.2 billion
The MUSV (Medium Unmanned Surface Vessel) program is moving to serial procurement source. Ten each have been ordered of Saronic's 45 m Marauder and HII's 58 m Romulus source. Containerized weapons make it possible to switch them from a transport role to a strike role.
Heavy UAVs and their engines: Gamera and SkyShot 1600
SwarmAero showed the Gamera Group 5 reconnaissance-strike UAV. Claimed are a price ten times lower than analogues, a radius of about 9000 nautical miles and the ability to carry LRASM and JASSM-ER missiles source. The range remains an advertising figure for now.
Honeywell SkyShot 1600 has been selected for preliminary design under the CCA (Collaborative Combat Aircraft — unmanned fighter "wingmen") program source. The modular engine comes as a turbojet or turbofan with thrust from 3.6 to 12.5 kN and is designed for extensive use of 3D printing.
PrSM Increment 4 — five companies will build prototypes of a 1000+ km HIMARS missile against moving targets
Contracts went to Anduril, Castelion, Lockheed Martin, Mach Industries and RTX source. Competitive flight tests will take place in fiscal year 2027. The key requirement is engaging moving maritime and mobile ground targets, i.e. the seeker and the targeting channel, not just range.
Ukraine: two new brigades of the Unmanned Systems Forces
The 445th and 446th brigades are being formed within the USF (Unmanned Systems Forces). Operators of UGVs, FPVs, bombers, interceptors and reconnaissance drones are being recruited source. The East group of forces has been disbanded; Azov and Center have been created in its place. New Deputy Defense Minister Oleksii Reva is responsible for digitalization, and Oleksii Kovalenko has been appointed commander of the Signal and Cyber Security Troops.
Priority 3. The conflict around Ukraine: trends and signals
Russia opened its winter campaign against energy with a combined strike. CHP-5, the Trypillia TPP, the Kyiv HPP, the Kyivska substation in Nalyvaikivka and the battery park in Horenychi came under attack source. About 30% of Kyiv consumers remained without power source. Ukraine officially announced a complete halt to steel production source.
Attrition is measured not only in destruction. The average duration of an air raid alert in Kyiv rose from 1.6 hours in July to 7.5 in September source. The Ministry of Economy estimates an hour of alert at $45 million in losses source.
Signals:
• Diplomacy: according to The Atlantic, the US is preparing a trilateral meeting in Abu Dhabi in October on an "energy truce" source. The new warhead against power lines raises the stakes of this deal for Kyiv.
• Front: the Ukrainian operation "Vivaldi" retook 176 km² in three phases; according to ISW, local drone superiority after suppressing Russian UAVs and EW helped source. "Rybar" also acknowledges a deterioration in the Sloviansk direction source. At the same time, DeepState records Russian advances near Vasylivka and Shevchenko.
• Resources: Russia's draft budget for 2027 allocates 17.1 trillion rubles to defense, 32% more than in 2026 source.
• Escalation: jet-powered Gerans entered Moldova three times in one day, one exploded in a rural area source. Russian embassies for the first time linked a possible blockade of Kaliningrad to a nuclear response against NATO decision-making centers source.
What to watch
- KRSN opens a separate class of targets — power line towers and bridge trusses. In winter, the main risk for Ukraine shifts from generation to distribution, which is less well protected physically.
- The jet-powered Geran-5 has become the main means of striking Kyiv: 75% of launches. It is shot down roughly 13–18 percentage points less often than the piston-engined one, and its launch infrastructure has gone underground.
- Ukrainian interceptor drones against the Geran-5 are turning into a lineup of five types. So far these are isolated episodes against thousands of launches, and F-16s are forced to burn gun ammunition and airframe life.
- The jam-resistant navigation of Russian drones is growing in steps: 4, then 32 CRPA elements, with plans for 20 and 24 elements. This means the bet on GNSS jamming is losing effectiveness.
- Strike UGVs have reached the thousands, and Britain's Babcock is taking on localization of an Estonian robot and integration of heavy ground platforms.

Military space and space-based data
The US has acknowledged having weapons in space — experts point to rendezvous satellites in geostationary orbit
Commenting on the acknowledgment, Scientific American's experts consider the most likely weapon to be small spacecraft for RPO (rendezvous and proximity operations — maneuvering close to another satellite) source. Such a spacecraft can inspect a target, block its view, jam its communications, and, if it has a manipulator arm, capture it or remove it from orbit. Astrophysicist Jonathan McDowell links some of the 17 classified small US satellites in GEO (geostationary orbit) to this. There are no international rules on rendezvous distance.
In the same dual-use logic:
• In October 2026, Star Catcher will launch Protostar on Transporter-18 for the first demonstration of optical power transfer between free-flying spacecraft. The mission includes automatic search for and tracking of another satellite — essentially the same technology an inspector needs source.
• [upd] Starlink V3 — Starship reached orbit for the first time and immediately deployed 26 next-generation satellites source. This is the main launcher for building up the constellation on which Ukrainian communications on the line of contact and UGV control depend.
• The US Air Force allocated $64.4 million to Aerostar for a high-altitude balloon for long-duration surveillance and communications source.
Changes in data access. Open thermal anomaly detectors have again become the first means of verifying strikes: NASA FIRMS (NASA's system for detecting fires from satellite data) marks at the Trypillia TPP, CHP-5 and near the dam of the Kyiv Reservoir were used by channels on both sides source. The opposite trend is the closing of sources: according to ISW, the Kremlin is sharply restricting publication of data on oil refining, production, logistics and storage, linking this to Ukrainian long-range strikes source. This directly shrinks the basis for assessing the effect of strikes on refineries.
An indirect indicator from the same digest: mobile traffic in Russia in Q2 fell by 6% year on year, while fixed-line traffic grew by 55%. This reflects the scale of mobile internet shutdowns.
Within Russia, from October 1, submitting a flight plan for a civilian UAV is impossible without an active account in ERA-GLONASS. The price is 1795 rubles one-time and 5554 rubles per year for each aircraft, about 2.2 million rubles for a fleet of 300 vehicles source.
Under the radar
• Hish — a Ukrainian analog video transmitter with in-flight frequency and power switching. Range 3.0–4.0 GHz, more than 100 channels and its own frequency grid, control via the Tramp and SmartAudio protocols. It is a tool for evading EW tuned to standard grids source.
• [upd] Molniya — flight controllers and activation boards of the Molniya-2 and Molniya-PVO disassembled. [TECH] The document covers three controller revisions with INAV 7 and 8 firmware, two activation boards (a 9-pin one with output at battery voltage and a 6-pin one with 4.8–6 V output) and a step-by-step multimeter check. Separately, there is a warning that board No. 1, when connected with "long" wires, activates regardless of the button source.
• ESP32 as a transmitting SDR. Two ESP32-S3 boards without external radio modules exchanged messages at 2.4 GHz via the Wi-Fi test carrier (OOK and 2-FSK) source. A check by a detector developer showed a working range of only 2200–2800 MHz source. This is a dirt-cheap basis for homemade radio reconnaissance tools.
• INAV 10 RC — terrain following and automatic VTOL transition. The Terrain AGL Hold mode maintains altitude above terrain using a map from an SD card, and a VTOL (vertical takeoff and landing aircraft) automatically transitions to airplane mode source. Limitation: trees and wires are not visible. The stable version is expected in December.
• A simulator for training interceptor AI. The development team runs the guidance algorithm thousands of times in an adapted FPV simulator modeling weather, thrust and target trajectory, and only then moves to a real flight source.
• DARPA and ONR fund 3D printing of ferrites. A porous blank is impregnated with nanoparticles and sintered again, which will make it possible to print magnetic cores of non-standard shapes right at a base source.
• The UFA AI agent for investigating UAV flight violations. An LLM-based system with a RAG database of regulations detected violations with 99.2% accuracy and cut case review from 945 to 42.5 seconds source. This is a ready-made loop for automated airspace control.
• Persian Gulf airspace was closed for 191 days in 2026 versus 24 in 2025. The count covers eight countries; in 2026 the region experienced simultaneous airspace closures by several states and strikes on airports source.
And what about our Chinese comrades?
• An underwater swarm of 116 vehicles. Chinese researchers conducted a record group run of 116 autonomous TH-618s: about 500 m in 34 minutes while holding formation without GPS source. Each vehicle, 61.5 cm long and weighing about 5 kg, operates for more than 8 hours and travels up to 30 km. This is a bid for swarm underwater operations.
• China has revised its mobilization law for the first time since 2010. The authorities will be able to requisition transport, infrastructure and energy resources of private and foreign companies source.
• Two-tier army air defense against drones. Chinese specialist sources are promoting a pairing of the HQ-17B SAM system (interception up to 15–18 km) and the Type 625 gun-missile system with a 25 mm six-barrel cannon for "finishing off" FPVs and loitering munitions at 2.5–3 km source.
• [upd] Typhon — Chinese space reconnaissance records construction near the system's position in Kanoya. The US system with Tomahawk and SM-6 will be moved to Okinawa by mid-October. Construction near the current position points to groundwork for a return source.
• Taiwan removes almost all grounds for exemption from conscription. From October 31, full exemption is possible only with a BMI above 45 or a height of 144 cm or less. Of the 193 items of the medical standards, 180 have been rewritten source.
External analysis
• AMRAAM is only part of the Raytheon package. Janes clarifies that the $20.7 billion agreement (at least 1900 AMRAAMs per year) is part of a package in which Tomahawk is expanded to more than 1000 per year and SM-6 to more than 500 source. Telegram channels presented the contract in isolation. The external context shows systemic replenishment after expenditure in the Middle East, which limits the availability of these missiles for Ukraine.
• Civilian vessels as sensors against the "shadow fleet". Iceland's Hefring Marine showed the ODIN system at the NATO exercise REPMUS 26. Sensor nodes on fishing vessels match radar against AIS (automatic identification system for ships) and detect "dark" vessels source. This is a new layer of maritime OSINT on civilian infrastructure.
• Milrem itself admits the limits of a robotic "wall" on the eastern flank. The concept of a defense line based on THeMIS, Vector and Havoc 8×8, according to the company, runs up against the incompatibility of national solutions and the lack of proven concepts of employment for large unmanned formations source. This is more sober than Ukrainian practice, where robots already work by the thousands, one by one.
• Munitions as an upgradable platform. Anduril's Barracuda-M family has been certified compliant with the WOSA open weapons architecture across 14 domains, including autonomy and navigation source. Certification formalizes replacement of components without redesign — something Ukrainian manufacturers do informally in a cycle of a few weeks.
• Raw materials bottleneck. The Pentagon has invested $450 million in Elmet Group to restore tungsten mining. From January 1, tungsten from China, Russia, Iran and North Korea is banned, and China controls about 85% of global reserves source. For scaling up interceptor missiles and munitions, this constraint is tougher than production capacity.
• F/A-XX is single-seat. The War Zone, based on a Boeing render, notes a single-seat cockpit contrary to forecasts of a two-person crew. Complex tasks, including control of unmanned wingmen, are shifted to automation and AI source.
