Priority 1. UAVs, counter-UAV, military AI and new technologies in conflicts
update Geran-5 — "K5" modification with Susanin terrain-referenced optical navigation
According to Ukrainian claims cited by a Russian channel, the jet-powered Geran-5 now has a variant that holds its route without satellites and without a radio link. This is another step toward turning the drone into a cheap cruise missile. The variant is designated "K5" and has a modified fuselage. The Susanin system compares imagery of the underlying terrain with a preloaded map. In principle it is analogous to Otblesk-U on the Kh-101 cruise missile source.
The appearance of the "K5" is confirmed by several sources. The Ukrainian side published photos of the wreckage, and there is video of one falling in a spin. The silhouette of the new fuselage is visible in satellite imagery of the Tsimbulova drone port in Oryol Oblast source. Ukraine's Militarnyi adds that the "K5" is faster than the base model source.
The main consequence concerns EW (electronic warfare). Jamming and spoofing of GNSS (global navigation satellite systems) stop working against this branch of the Gerans. Ukrainian air defense is left with kinetic kill only.
update Geran-5 — the strike on the Inkom business center was filmed by a jet "Shahed" working as a MESH relay at an altitude of ~3 km
Ukrainian author Serhii "Flash" analyzed the strike on Kyiv's Inkom business center and explained where the objective-control video came from. Satellites and agents had nothing to do with it. The office was attacked by a Geran-5. At the same time, a jet "Shahed" circled over the impact site at an altitude of almost 3 km. It served as a MESH relay (a node of a mesh radio network passing on the control signal) for the strike aircraft and simultaneously broadcast video of the attack. After that, the same "Shahed" left Kyiv and hit a McDonald's warehouse source.
In Flash's assessment, this is a complex operation: it requires precise calculations and coordinated work by the pilots, who probably sat next to each other. The strike video itself was published by a Russian channel source.
The Russian channel Russian Engineer draws a doctrinal conclusion from the same episode. A persistent "sensor" has appeared over Kyiv, whereas previously a reconnaissance drone flew there one way. To achieve this, according to the author, Ukrainian radar stations had to be suppressed, without which anti-aircraft drones are helpless. The war, in his formula, is waged first of all against sensors and communication nodes, and only then drone against drone source.
update Geran-4 "Seeker" — shuts off its engine and glides before the attack; an aircraft accelerating to 800 km/h spotted near Odesa
The jet Geran-4 with a seeker sometimes switches off its engine and approaches the target in a glide. Flash is not yet sure whether this is a malfunction or a deliberate technique for a slow and precise approach. The footage shows a nose camera and two MESH antennas on the tails: one pointing down, the other up source. The same details are visible in Ukrainian footage reposted by a Russian channel source.
A Ukrainian Odesa channel describes an unusual flight. The aircraft first flew at 250 km/h, then accelerated to 800 km/h and slowed to 500 km/h. The author suggests that the Russian side is testing a new engine on the Shahed-238 (Geran-4) source. This is a single unconfirmed observation. If it is accurate, Ukrainian interceptors designed for targets flying at 500–600 km/h will have to adapt.
update Geran-4 and Geran-5 against telecom — Kyivstar headquarters and a Vodafone data center hit; Rybar admits there is no digital collapse
The campaign of Russian strikes on Kyiv DCs (data centers) has expanded from transit nodes to the largest operators. The Varyag brigade (@Brigada_VARYAG) published a compilation video covering 11 sites: De Novo, PrivatBank, Kyivstar, United DC, Cosmonova, G50/NEWTELCO, Inter Cars, BiMobile, Datagroup, Parkovyi, Volia source. Overnight they were joined by Kyivstar's headquarters and Vodafone's technical office, which also houses a data center source. Kyivstar is the largest Ukrainian mobile and internet operator. The company confirmed damage to the building and said no one was hurt source.
The soberest assessment comes from Russia's Rybar. A hit on a building does not mean the destruction of a data center: the infrastructure is distributed, and some data is stored abroad. Banks and services are working, albeit with interruptions. The campaign, in its words, serves to search for "bottlenecks". One such place turned out to be Cosmonova: it was a transit node for TV broadcasting, and after it was damaged, the TV channels' own servers became largely useless source.
For a sense of scale: Western OSINT analysts counted more than 155 strikes on Kyiv and the region in September. This is the worst month since 2022; July and August saw 111 and 113 source. The tactic at the bridge in Mayaky, Odesa Oblast, stands apart. The bridge is not destroyed but temporarily blocked, after which the trucks in the resulting traffic jam are struck source.
Jet Gerans in numbers: about 3000 per month and $12 billion for next year
A Ukrainian expert on unmanned technologies estimates production of jet Gerans already at thousands per month. The Russian side, according to Ukrainian data, is earmarking a separate multibillion-dollar budget for them.
[TECH] The Russian channel KTsPN translated a Ukrainian video review of the line's evolution source. It contains Geran-4 specifications:
• turbojet engine thrust — 160 kgf;
• takeoff weight — up to 450 kg, warhead — 50 kg;
• speed — 350–500 km/h, range — 850 km;
• ceiling — 5 km, flight time — 2.5 hours;
• 12-patch CRPA antennas (adaptive antenna arrays that suppress GNSS jamming).
The Geran-5 has a warhead of up to 90 kg, a range of up to 1000 km and a speed of about 600 km/h. Output is estimated as follows: about 3000 Geran-4/5 and the same number of "Geran-2" per month; production of the Geran-3 has been halted. Engines are named as the bottleneck: Russia takes Chinese ones or adapts model turbojets. Ukraine has about four jet interceptors in development.
According to Zelensky, Russian internal documents show that about $12 billion is being allocated next year for jet drones and loitering munitions source.
Ukraine's Oboronka, together with the GEOINT (geospatial intelligence) project Kiberboroshno, studied the network of Russian drone ports. The piece explains why sites from which dozens of drones are launched in an hour are so hard to destroy source. Ukraine's USF (Unmanned Systems Forces) claimed a strike on a training base of the Russian "GROM 'Kaskad'" brigade near Mariupol, which launches Gerans, including jet ones source.
Operation "Vivaldi": Ukrainian kamikaze UGVs with two grenade launchers storm buildings
The Ukrainian side for the first time publicly showed UGVs (unmanned ground vehicles) not as a means of supply but as an assault asset in an offensive. The NC13 strike UGV unit of the Third Army Corps fitted kamikaze UGVs with two Bullspike grenade launchers each. First the robot fires at the position, then drives into the shelter and detonates together with it. The operators are tens of kilometers from the line of contact. Russian troops, according to the corps, mistook the attack for an assault by an infantry group source.
A Ukrainian Odesa channel calls "Vivaldi" the most high-tech operation in the modern history of warfare source. Bild writes of robots penetrating more than 15 km deep, and The Telegraph calls it the world debut of such tactics source.
Ukraine's InformNapalm warns that the Russian army quickly copies successful solutions. It recalls the Russian "Kurier" UGVs and the "Mangas" heavy drone source.
update Desantnik — Russian channels record Ukrainian small UGVs being delivered behind the lines by heavy drones
A Russian sapper channel showed the Ukrainian "desantnik" UGV kit, which is dropped behind the lines. The author expects it to be used as a kamikaze and for mining source. Another Russian channel describes the delivery of small kamikaze UGVs by heavy drones for sabotage. According to it, this method has already been used to blow up bridges source.
The result is an "aerial carrier + ground robot" combination. It makes it possible to reach targets that are covered against FPV (first-person view) drones, but not against a ground threat.
update DELTA — WSJ: "Madyar's Birds" record 10–12 TB of video per day and process it with their own closed AI
A WSJ correspondent visited the command post of USF commander Robert Brovdi. According to her description, the Delta battle management system brings every drone, sensor and fire platform into a single network. A pilot's mark on the map immediately reaches neighboring units, "like a new order to Uber drivers." Brovdi delegates 90% of combat decisions downward. One "Madyar's Birds" unit records 10–12 TB per day, and its own closed AI system is used to analyze them source.
The terabyte figure shows why manual video review is no longer possible. Hence the bet on AI for data processing.
update Molniya — warhead from a resumed Russian plastic TM-62P3 mine; an aircraft without a control antenna recorded
Ukrainian sappers found a Molniya with a warhead made from a TM-62P3 mine with "RF" marking in the index. This points to resumed production of a low-metal mine that is hard to find with a metal detector source.
The second signal is more important. According to Flash, a Molniya variant without a control antenna has been recorded, with only a camera and an onboard computer. The Ukrainian author of the VictoryDrones2023 channel concludes that navigation, search and attack are moving toward full autonomy. He links this to Russia and the US having removed mandatory human verification of AI targets from the draft UN rules in Geneva source. Kargin's Russian channel explains Moscow's interest in autonomy pragmatically. Without its own Starlink-class satellite communications, a guaranteed link to the munition under EW cannot be ensured source.
[TECH] "Lazar" inside: a captured heavy quadcopter on Cube Orange with Starlink and failsafe modes disabled
A Russian channel took apart a captured Lazar aircraft and reconstructed its onboard electrical layout from a parameter dump source. The post contains the full power and communications diagram:
• autopilot — Cube Orange flight controller with ArduPilot 4.5.4;
• power — two 6S packs in series, 12S in total at 75 Ah, about 3.3 kWh; two separate PDBs (power distribution boards) decouple the motors and the digital electronics;
• navigation — a professional Septentrio Mosaic-X5 GNSS receiver, replaced by u-blox on some aircraft;
• communications — a Raspberry Pi 5 companion computer, to which Starlink is connected via Ethernet; to the autopilot, all communications look like ordinary MAVLink;
• drops — three payload release channels commanded by the Raspberry Pi, bypassing the flight mixer.
Return-to-home on link loss and telemetry to the ground are disabled, and the mission is erased on any failsafe event. The author writes that the aircraft often flies one way for 40–60 km. The bottom line: a cheap component base and Starlink instead of a radio link provide tactical long range.
Ukrainian campaign against Russian logistics: September equaled the whole summer, FPVs reach 40 km
OSINT researcher Clément Molin calculated that in September Ukrainian strikes hit as many Russian logistics vehicles as in all the summer months combined. A number of units fly FPVs 40 km beyond the front line without difficulty. The Russian side is ramping up interceptor drones; the Ukrainian side responds with a growing number of decoy drones. Protected convoys, in his observation, are visible from afar and attract many drones at once source.
Video from a highway in the south gives a clear sense of scale. On one stretch there are 40 hit vehicles: 37 trucks, two fuel tankers and an armored KamAZ of a mobile fire group source. A Ukrainian channel shows about 40 burned vehicles from a single sortie along the Rostov — Crimea highway source.
Separate news: the Defense Forces delivered about 4 tonnes of food by drones to occupied Oleshky source.
update Rubikon — 80% of the strikes published during the week were on unmanned platforms, including 135 on UGVs
The Russian Rubikon center published 1772 episodes for September 21–27. This is 22.3% more than the previous record and almost twice as many as a month ago. Unmanned platforms accounted for 80% of strikes. Of these, 866 (48.9%) were multicopters, 417 (23.5%) fixed-wing drones, 135 (7.6%) UGVs source.
UGVs are becoming a mass target, and this is visible on the other side too. The Ukrainian General Staff recorded +12 Russian UGVs in a day, 2774 in total source. Among the Baba Yagas in Rubikon's compilation are a hit Starlink terminal, patch antennas and a relay drone source.
Counter-UAV: interceptors, APS, private air defense and combat trainer aircraft
[upd] Varvar — Russian kinetic interceptor fielded without a warhead, auto-lock only at 250 m. A speed of up to 250 km/h and a range of up to 2 km are claimed. However, its own auto-lock system works only at 250 meters, and kills are achieved exclusively by ramming source. The Russian channel Osvedomitel points to the consequences. This will be enough against the Baba Yaga, but against the fixed-wing FP-1/FP-2 it is no longer obvious. The simple launcher is probably not designed for night, when the main raids take place source.
Ukrainian APS intercept up to 80% of FPVs. Militarnyi writes that Ukrainian APS (active protection systems for armored vehicles) intercept up to 80% of attacking FPV drones. Further improvement could return an important role to armored vehicles source. The figure is claimed without a methodology, but if confirmed, it is a notable shift.
Anduril and Latvia's ORIGIN signed a memorandum on exploring integration of the BLAZE interceptor into Lattice. The companies signed a memorandum on exploring the possibility of connecting the autonomous BLAZE interceptor to the Lattice platform. This is Anduril's open software layer that fuses heterogeneous sensors and allocates tasks. Joint tests in Latvia are envisaged source. For now this is a memorandum, not a confirmed combat pairing.
Swarmer and Erik Prince's Vectus — private air defense worth $600–720 million with production in Poland. American-Ukrainian Swarmer signed a memorandum with Vectus Air Defense Systems, a private air defense company. Once production is launched in Poland, Vectus intends to buy at least 40 mobile systems in the first year and 80 in the second, at $5–6 million apiece. Swarmer owns 20% of Vectus, and Vectus founder Erik Prince chairs Swarmer's board of directors. Volumes and prices have yet to be fixed in separate contracts source.
Combat trainer aircraft as cheap air defense against drones. An author at Britain's RUSI (Royal United Services Institute) proposes a multinational NATO squadron of armed trainer aircraft. It would shoot down intruding Russian drones without expending fighters and scarce missiles source. Russia's UAVDEV in parallel supports the same idea for the Yak-130 as a "flying air defense" after the war source.
[upd] Shershen — Ukrainian multi-caliber SAM system integrates missiles with active radar seekers, integration of the "Koral" surface-to-air missile possible. The SAM system is integrating the R-120, R-287 and GAM-67 with active radar seekers, some of them already in testing. Also mentioned is the Koral surface-to-air missile from the Luch Design Bureau with a claimed range of up to 30 km, and possibly up to 100 km, comparable to the Buk; it is assumed that its launcher may be integrated into the system. The system has passed codification, but there have been no purchases. Production of components for the first prototype was hit by an Iskander; the second prototype was shown in Poland in search of funding source.
The Russian mobile fire group BARS-Kursk works against FPVs from foot ambushes with assault rifles at 200–250 m, guided by video interception source. A Russian sapper analyzed the warheads of a Ukrainian interceptor drone with a quick-install electric detonator. Without a remote arming mechanism, he considers such a scheme dangerous for the user himself source.
Middle East and other zones
[upd] Missile-358 — Yemeni version of Saqr loiters up to 25 minutes, Saudi Karayel-SU shot down. Pro-government opponents of the Houthis published video of launches from Hodeidah of Saqr-1/2 loitering anti-aircraft missiles. This is a local version of the Iranian "358" and "359", which search for a target autonomously for up to 25 minutes. To their credit, according to a Russian channel, is a Turkish-made Karayel-SU of the Saudi Air Force source. Given the weak conventional Houthi air defense, these missiles remain the main cause of MALE (medium-altitude long-endurance) drone losses over Yemen.
IRGC claimed the capture of an American underwater drone — REMUS 600. According to the Iranian version, the capture took place in the area of the Strait of Hormuz. According to IRIB, the vehicle's memory with sonar data, search patterns and navigation settings could show the IRGC how American unmanned vehicles operate in the strait source.
IDF extended the ban on small FPVs until October 4. The reason was the death of two sergeants when a drone fell and exploded as they tried to pick it up. After the ban is lifted, use will be subject to accountability source.
US aviation losses in the war with Iran. A Russian channel cites 47 destroyed MQ-9s — about a quarter of the fleet, which forced a search for a cheaper replacement. In addition, it names an E-3G destroyed on the ground, two KC-135s and 4 F-15s source. The data is unverified.
Korean Air showed a group strike by 22 AI drones. Two lead drones conducted reconnaissance with ATR (automatic target recognition), ten maneuvered to deceive air defense, and ten delivered a vertical swarm strike on assigned targets. All of them were controlled by a single operator source.
Priority 2. Military innovation
S-71M "Monokhrom" — specialized channel: Rostec showed two versions, 70 kg at 500 km and a light one with a 5 kg warhead
According to a specialized Telegram channel, the Russian S-71M cruise missile exists in at least two versions. The first has a 70 kg warhead and a range of up to 500 km. Previously it was credited with the parameters of the S-71K "Kovyor" — 250 kg and 300 km. Of the second, only the 5 kg warhead is known. Both have optical guidance. Based on the dimensions of the first, the channel's author suggests carriage in the internal bays of the Su-57 and an AI module for target selection source. The purpose of the light version is unclear. Multi-round loading of the bay or launch from drones and ground platforms is likely.
Lockheed Martin Vectis — full-size mockup of the "loyal wingman" and five prototypes under construction
The American stealth drone Vectis, designed to operate alongside the F-35, has moved from renders to metal. Length about 10–10.4 m, span about 12 m, subsonic turbofan. The modular internal bay is designed for strike, reconnaissance, EW or escort. Five prototypes are being built at once, with the first flight scheduled for late 2027 source.
Roketsan — a family of aeroballistic missiles for drones and fighters
The Turkish line covers ranges from 55 to 500 km with a single architecture source:
• UAV-122 — up to 55 km; GNSS+INS, plus a TV or semi-active laser seeker;
• UAV-230 — over 150 km;
• JET-230 — for fighters, over 200 km;
• UAV-300 — up to 300 km from a drone and up to 500 km from an aircraft; GNSS, INS (inertial navigation system) and television guidance.
Patria and BELMA — remote mining from a tracked TRACKX under the FAMOUS program
Finland's Patria and Poland's BELMA (PGZ group) signed a memorandum. It concerns installing four BELMA mine-laying modules on the TRACKX chassis with a combined drop of 400 MN-123 mines per sortie. The project is part of the European Defence Fund's FAMOUS program. There is no final agreement; the companies are still assessing integration source.
Alongside it is the Ukrainian startup Zmiyar with networked control of "smart" minefields. The system can remotely switch mines on and off and shows their status on a digital map. The project took second place at IT Arena and received $20,000 source.
[TECH] STM32 in the Lancet: Ukrainian OSINT investigation reconstructed a Hong Kong supply chain
Ukrainian researchers (a translation was published by the Russian KTsPN) reconstructed the route of Western STM32 microcontrollers into Russia: Shenzhen, then Hong Kong, then Russia, with an additional node in India source. The PDF contains customs records, HS codes and links between legal entities. More than 300,000 STM32 units worth over $2.5 million passed through three Hong Kong companies from 2022 to May 2026. The peak came in 2023.
Recipient concentration is high:
• RUIDELI — 2019 transactions, 99.9% of them to Berlion, IC-Tsentr and EKB;
• Berlion and the sanctioned Onelek are linked through the Akulov spouses;
• JINMINGSHENG is on the sanctions list of OFAC (the US Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control).
STM32 was found in the Lancet, and NXP components that passed through the same chain were found in the Kub. The report's conclusion: end-use control of dual-use goods practically does not work.
"Perimeter": The Sunday Times and Danwatch uncovered a bunker modernization through procurement documentation
The investigation is valuable above all for its method: almost 2.5 million documents on Russian military procurement. Object 1335 "Grot", according to the journalists, is located in Mount Kosvinsky Kamen, not in Yamantau. About 22 thousand t of steel, 56 thousand t of cement and at least 13 thousand t of sand were purchased for the modernization. The complex consists of at least 24 underground chambers, with about 2.5 km between exits source.
Russia's Russian Engineer points to a vulnerability exposed by the investigation. Open public procurement can be aggregated with Palantir-class tools, so it needs to be given cover stories source. The Russian official position, according to a post by Strategic Affairs, boils down to the fact that the decision to use nuclear weapons is made by the president and human involvement remains a constant source.
Patriot air defense in Europe: a Polish plant under a Ukrainian license and a European PAC-3 service center
Poland offered to build a Patriot missile plant on its territory if the US grants a license to Ukraine. The argument is that on Polish territory the enterprise will not be destroyed at the construction stage source.
Separately, a site is being selected for a European service center for the PAC-3 MSE and PAC-3 CRI. Poland, Germany, Sweden and the Netherlands are competing. Currently the missiles are shipped to the US for complex servicing, and the cycle takes more than a year. The center is supposed to cut it to a few months and become a step toward localizing production source. Meanwhile, the US did not include Patriot missiles in the $400 million aid package for Ukraine under the USAI program source.
Other
• The Japanese Type 25 coastal system with a range of up to 1000 km will take part for the first time in the Japanese-American Keen Sword exercise. There will be no live launches; the full targeting cycle will be practiced source.
• Rolls-Royce is assembling 20 F130 engines for the B-52J; flight tests will begin in mid-2027. The bomber will remain eight-engined source.
• NPK Progress's Russian civilian USV (uncrewed surface vessel) "Geroi Tumana" covered 278 km in 10 hours beyond the Arctic Circle, from Teriberka to the closed town (ZATO) of Ostrovnoy, carrying cargo source. This is a dual-use technology for Arctic uncrewed logistics.
Priority 3. The conflict around Ukraine: trends and signals
The air war has become two-sided, and Russian channels acknowledge it. The Ilsky refinery stopped after a drone attack on September 26; three primary processing units were damaged source. A Ukrainian analyst, using Rosstat data, counted a drop of about 20% in Russian oil refining over the summer. At the same time, military production is growing, civilian production is falling, and the overall result for 8 months is zero source.
Rybar's overview summary calls long-range strikes the main military content of the week source. Rybar warns that the "war of cities" is not free and must not be dragged out source.
The strike on the Azov Optical-Mechanical Plant is confirmed by imagery. The satellite image shows hits on at least five workshops: foundry, optics, assembly, electroplating and machining source. A leaked KTRV letter to the plant demands, from 2026, 500 units and 1000 casings each for R-37M missiles source.
Ukrainian ballistic missiles against Moscow. Fire Point CEO Iryna Terekh promised ballistic missile launches at Moscow before the end of autumn source. This is a harbinger of attempts to escalate in depth. Rogozin notes low Ukrainian drone activity at night and allows for a buildup ahead of a massive strike source.
Front. DeepState records an advance by Russian troops near Bilytske. A Ukrainian analyst considers the September pace of −3.4 km² per day an order of magnitude higher than August's (−0.2), but two to three times lower than in autumn 2025 source. Russian sources acknowledge a difficult situation north of Lyman source. The USF grouping has reported 500+ Russian servicemen hit per day for the third day in a row source.
Europe. The Baltic states asked the EU for about €0.5 billion for counter-drone defense source. Lithuania is protecting the Gižai substation near the Suwałki corridor from strike drones with reinforced concrete and tunneling sensors source.
Near the British base at Fairford, which is used by the US Air Force, several men were detained on suspicion of attempted intrusion and planting explosives; sappers are checking cars for explosive devices. The base, according to British media, has been moved to FPCON Delta — the highest force protection level for US military facilities source.
Diplomacy. Rybar concludes from Lavrov's rhetoric that Moscow is not proposing to stop hostilities for the sake of negotiations as such source. Trump said he had asked Zelensky not to strike Russian refineries because of diesel prices, and Zelensky replied that he might strike less source.
What to watch
- The "Geran-5 K5" with Susanin terrain navigation takes part of the jet Gerans out from under EW. At the same time, the Russian side has mastered over Kyiv the "striker + jet relay-observer" combination. This is a transition from a mass raid to a controlled reconnaissance-strike operation in depth.
- Ukraine for the first time publicly showed UGVs as an assault asset: grenade launchers, then detonation inside the shelter, plus sweeping 30 km of roads during the offensive. Rubikon is already hitting UGVs by the dozens per week, so ground robotic warfare has gone into series on both sides.
- The Russian telecom strike on Kyiv is methodical, but, by Rybar's own assessment, it has not produced a systemic collapse. The value of the campaign lies in finding bottlenecks such as the Cosmonova transit node.
- Autonomy is advancing from below. The Molniya without a control antenna and the dispute in Geneva over human verification of AI targets are two sides of one process: under dense EW, a link to the munition is not guaranteed.
- Counter-drone is being commercialized. Erik Prince's private air defense with Swarmer, Anduril with Latvia's ORIGIN, and Ukraine's Unwave at the US Drone Dominance trials show that the C-UAS (counter-UAV systems) market is becoming transatlantic and private.
What's new in UAVs and counter-UAV
• "Geran-5 K5" (Russia) — according to Ukrainian data, a new fuselage; optical correction against the Susanin map; faster than the base version.
• "Geran-4 Seeker" (Russia) — target approach in a glide with the engine off; two MESH antennas on the tails; acceleration to 800 km/h observed near Odesa.
• Jet "Shahed" relay (Russia) — loitered over Kyiv at ~3 km, relayed control and video of the strike on Inkom.
• "Molniya" (Russia) — warhead from a newly produced TM-62P3 mine; a variant without a control antenna.
• NC13 kamikaze UGV (Ukraine) — two Bullspike grenade launchers; detonation inside a building.
• "Desantnik" (Ukraine) — a small UGV delivered behind the lines by a heavy drone.
• "Lazar" (captured by Russian sappers) — Cube Orange; Starlink via Raspberry Pi 5; range of 40–60 km one way.
• "Varvar" (Russia) — kinetic interceptor; 250 km/h; auto-lock only at 250 m; no warhead.
• Ukrainian APS — claimed interception of up to 80% of FPVs.
• BLAZE (ORIGIN, Latvia) — exploring the possibility of integration into Anduril's Lattice under a memorandum.
• Swarmer (USA/Ukraine) — up to 120 mobile air defense systems over two years for Vectis; $5–6 million per system.
• Saqr-1/2 (Yemen) — loitering surface-to-air missile with patrol time of up to 25 minutes.
• Korean Air (South Korea) — a swarm of 22 drones with ATR under a single operator.
Military space and space-based data
Starlink as a political lever for deep strikes. Finnish President Stubb, in an interview with Reuters, called on Elon Musk to expand Starlink coverage for Ukraine. The goal is strikes on Russian ballistic missile launchers source. Peskov called the possible provision of Starlink for strikes deep into Russia "reckless and dangerous" source. The Lazar teardown shows that the terminal is already installed on tactical heavy drones. And Rubikon is knocking out Starlink terminals on the front line.
Navigation without GPS. Northrop Grumman used the Lumberjack unmanned aircraft to test the AQNav system from SandboxAQ. It corrects the drift of the inertial system using magnetic anomalies of the Earth's crust and a known map. The system is passive and cannot be jammed, but it is expensive. In the tests it worked together with visual navigation source. The Russian Susanin on the "K5" follows the same logic through the optical channel. Russia's ZALA, under an agreement with the Sakhalin authorities, is introducing its own GEOKOSMOS communications and navigation system. The ZALA T-20 flew 420 km from Sakhalin to Kunashir under civil aviation rules source.
Changes in data access. Commercial Planet Labs imagery cited by NK Pro revealed the laying down of two large North Korean ships in Nampo and Chongjin since July–August. This may be the first cruiser with a displacement of 10,000 t source. Satellite imagery remains the main independent means of assessing strikes: this is how the five workshops of the Azov plant and the "K5" at the Tsimbulova drone port were confirmed. Procurement databases have proven to be a full-fledged OSINT source on a par with satellites: the Perimeter investigation is built on 2.5 million tender documents. ADS-B tracking (open aircraft flight data) recorded a flight of a Polish Safran Patroller reconnaissance UAV along the border with Belarus. The operator and mission have not been disclosed source.
Under the radar
• The physics of acoustic drone detection. A Russian analysis explains why the range of acoustic networks is measured in hundreds of meters rather than kilometers. Wind and urban noise matter more than electronics, so acoustics are only one layer of a layered system, not a replacement for radar source.
• Fiber-optic FPVs without the myths. The real working range is about 10–20 km; claims of 40–50 km have not yet been confirmed. The spool "eats" the payload source.
• Offshore wind farms create "ghost ships" on coastal radars. In a simulation by Chinese scientists at ~5 km, radar coverage shrank by 6.9% and blind zones grew by almost 15% source. This matters for coastal surveillance in the Baltic and North Seas, which are saturated with wind turbines.
• Crowd counting has moved to the DJI RC Pro controller. SkyeBrowse built Crowd Counter Pro into the flight app, and a mass-market commercial drone counts people in the frame in seconds without additional equipment source. This is dual-use AI available to anyone.
• [TECH] Radar on a multicopter built on a single-chip AMD RFSoC platform. A 150–400 MHz chirp (LFM) signal, Vivaldi antennas of 0.7 kg each, and coherent integration of 128 pulses made it possible to raise the survey altitude to 2–4 m. The depth-sounding error down to 3 m is 7.9 cm source. There is no direct military angle, but this is a ready-made software-defined radar architecture for a small drone.
What about our Chinese comrades?
• The PLA Southern Theater Command on September 27 held joint navy and air force exercises near Huangyan atoll (Scarborough). Reconnaissance and early warning, rapid maneuver and search and rescue operations were practiced. Officially the exercises were described as a response to the actions of "certain countries" source, source.
• The J-35A fighter officially received the name Yunlong ("Cloud Dragon") on Chinese state television. Global Times expert Zhang Junshe considers this confirmation at the state level source.
• The fourth-generation ZTZ-100 tank has entered service. According to a Russian channel's description, it has an unmanned turret, a crew capsule, the GL-6 APS and four AESA radars for detecting drones at up to 5 km source. The specifications in the post are given without a primary source and should be treated as estimates.
• China has about a hundred models of humanoid robots from 44 manufacturers, with output in the tens of thousands per year source. This is an industrial base on which military robotics may rely in the future.
• Hong Kong and Shenzhen remain the main hub for supplying Western microelectronics to Russian drones. More than 300,000 STM32s passed through three companies source.

• Ukrainian intelligence, according to Zelensky, has Russian documents on a budget of about $12 billion for jet drones and loitering munitions next year source. This supports Ukrainian estimates of 3000 jet Gerans per month and means that the current strike pace is not a peak but a baseline.
• The US Space Force is installing a combat laser against drones at Cape Canaveral. EW is ruled out there because of the risk to spacecraft electronics, and about 500 unauthorized flights took place over the neighboring port in 2025 source. The Telegram sphere is almost silent about lasers, while in the West they are already moving into site protection.
• The Pentagon brought in Ukraine's Unwave with its EW stations Vykha (jamming at 7–12 km), Bumboks, Shatro and Choven-2 for FPV testing in the second phase of Drone Dominance source. There are no contracts yet, but Ukrainian EW has become the reference jamming environment for American drones.
• The economics of mass in the US: Michigan's Swarm Defense will supply 4000 Kiwi strike drones at about $6250 each source. The Army selected 30 finalists in a competition for cheap interceptors for Patriot source. The Pentagon is moving toward the same "cheaper than the target" logic that Russia and Ukraine have already implemented.
• The US Navy created the RASWDC center to move aerial, surface and underwater drones from experiments into combat training, including under communications jamming source. Iran's captures of REMUS 600 show why such refinement is needed.
• The Ukrainian evacuation UGV MAUL, according to the developer, is being improved primarily based on soldiers' feedback rather than through AI source. This is a sober counterweight to the loud promises of "Army of Robots" about humanoids in combat within six months.
